GTR 25 and an Instagator boat. What can I do if I want to use this boat in the wintertime down in the coastal Everglades or fish Florida Bay in the summertime to minimize corrosion-related issues? What are the main problem points on the motor, and is the aluminum able to withstand saltwater?

I also have a Merc Sea Pro 25 outboard I can hang on the boat, if necessary, for the salt trips. Is it worth swapping?

Paint the motor to inhibit corrosion. Then coat with corrosion x. Also, it wouldn't hurt to add a saltwater anode somewhere on your drive system.

For the Corrosion-X fans, there is a product made by CRC called Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor that is a corrosion-proofing film similar to corrosion block or corrosion-x, but creates a thich, almost wax-like coating that effectively waterproofs whatever it touches. It's excellent for electrical connections/wiring/terminals or bare metal. I'm not sure how it will work on an air-cooled motor as they run quite a bit hotter than an outboard, but it really works well in most applciations and I like it a lot better than corrosion-x.

Keep in mind that corrosion x is also a very good lubricant.

Paint
Corrosion X (or any reputable inhibitor)
Anode

I have all three on my motor and I run saltwater damn near every time I take my boat out. You will be satisfied with the results.

I'm willing to bet your gtr will stand up to the salt better than that outboard. I spray mine down with wd40 almost every time I use it. It looks like shit but its not corroded! I run saltwater just like 90% of the mm users do.

Corrosion x is good but if you pressure wash a lot it don't stay on.

If your motor ain't gonna be sitting in the water for long periods anode ain't gonna do you any good.

As for as salt water pressure wash after each use that is you best defense.

That's a clean ass motor. You paint it after every outing. Being that I guide in salt water I see no need for a anode on the motor if not left in the water for any amount of time. Just a FYI it's not only salt water. If you live close to water and keep your boat, camp in a place with under ground electricity wires its even worse. Fresh water also

I know of a couple surface drives that stay in saltwater during duck season. As in they are never picked up, they stay in the bayou until seasons over. These motors needed anodes, I personally don't believe it's needed if your not leaving it in the water. Can it hurt, no, so if you're so inclined to put one then go ahead.

All the solutions mentioned will afford some degree of protection. I personally just rinse mine off with fresh water but I don't do it often enough and it shows. Then again I really don't worry about it either.

I fish tampa bay weekly all salt bro wash it good it will be fine , i spray mine down about every other trip out and when I put it up I spray it. Its never in fresh water.

Has anyone found a paint or primer that will stick to the block for any length of time?

I buy the gallon of WD40, and a spray bottle keeps cost down a bit. I also use corrosion x after I pressure wash the engine. Rinse it ASAP and every time you get out the water.
Also, I hear that urange powder coat stops corrosion instantaneously.
