Post gotta make the decision. please help!
its time to decide what size longtail i need for my boat. its a starcraft aluminum vee hull, about 200 lbs. 60" at the widest point, 52" bottom. i fish and hunt opne water that can get snotty, thats why i have a v hull, but i need to be able to run over sandbars and muddy creeks, sometimes just inches of water, so i need a longtail.
i am not looking for super speed, just enough to get 2 guys and gear, 450 lbs, on plane. one company recommended a 13 hp honda. is that enough to go 10 mph on plane? i do have trim tabs, so that will help a bit.
need a motor by this spring, and want to keep weight and cost down, so yay or neigh on the 13 to get me going 10 mph?
if it wont do, what size should i get?

Get the largest hp your wallet can afford. With a 52" wide bottom you can put any size longtail you want on there. You can always let off the throttle, but you cant add horsepower.

How long is the boat?

I'd go a 23 at minimum.

i'd say the 13 isn't enough.

When i ran my old 11, adding a 2nd person really slowed it down. That ws before GPS days, so I never knew the actual speed.

As said here earlier, buy as much hp as you can afford. Your boat can handle it. You'll be glad you did.

I used to have a 16 x 44 go devil hull along with a 23 hp GD LT , it pushed along just fine.
your hull is much lighter than the GD hull I had , so a 23 briggs , 24 honda , or the 27 hp kohler should be just right on the wallet and perfect for your hull.

shop around on craigslist & ebay there's alot LT's for sale out there

An 18 will probably do it but I'd get at least a 23 to make sure.

Well, you could always save some cash by getting a smaller motor, and having EVT fix it up for you. I would look at doing some transom work also...

I've got a 20hp Honda GoDevil longtail in great shape for $1500.00 - prop's in great shape, new "duck boat" handle and throttle cable - this is the motor I motor I kept around for my "loaner" this winter so it's time for it to go - will come with a 90 day warranty on parts also.
Where are you located and I could get you some shipping info - thanks,
Nab.
