it's still open the public, but there are a few rules madeup by the faggs that live around the lake. they like to keep people out so they can rape and pillage themselves.

whenever u go hunt just read the rules on the sign at the landing.

15 yrs ago i used to shoot sum nice woodies and a few teal over there right behing the state senators house. i like shooting the ducks they been feeding all yr!!!!!! :)

I hunted Spanish Lake back in the 90's and killed ducks there. I haven't made a hunt there since they drained it and did all the work. Ever since then there has been no food for them to stop. Sure you get some woodies, but not much of anything else. You have to be out by noon or 2PM when hunting. I pass there frequently on my way to my blind in Fausse Point being I live on Hwy 88. Couple times I've seen some headlights when I pass at 5:15ish. The lake had gotten real bad with willows when they filled it back up, but it is better now.

Can catch some sac-a-lait in the shallow areas on the Hwy 182 side. I've seen some people try and get in there with the trolling motor barely in the water trying to get to the shallow area.

last time i went, which was 2-3 yrs ago most of the dirt levees they had put in were gone and the lake was mostly open again, not good for the ducks.

back when i lived on hwy 88 and hunted spanish lake it was after they had redone it ad it was full of willows.
there was a yr or 2 when the bass fishing was off the hook. doesn't even look the same now.

when the lake is draining u can go throw a castnet on the backside and mop up on the sacalait/bass.

caught 14 of the biggest frogs i've ever seen in there one nite. probly not worth the effort now.

worst thing ever for the lake was a writeup in the la sportsman. got all the idiots out there and they caught whatever was left from the bass stocking.
