Pantex Lockdown: Duck Hunters Cause Scare at Nuclear Weapons Plant Font size PrintE-mailShareLeave Comment Posted by Kealan Oliver .
(Pantex Plant)HOUSTON (CBS/AP) Two camouflaged duck hunters scared Pantex officials Friday, prompting a lock-down at 8 a.m. at the Texas nuclear weapons plant.
Its nuclear stockpile was in no danger and the lock-down was purely precautionary, a state safety official said.
According to Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry, the plant was locked down because armed hunters were spotted on property adjacent to it.
"Somebody saw some armed individuals dressed in camouflage clothing exiting the vicinity of the plant," said Terry.
Sheriffs found a pair of hunters setting out duck decoys and building a blind on property near the plant, Terry said.
"They were very cooperative and compliant," Terry said. "We identified them. We checked their criminal history."
"There was not a threat to the Pantex plant assets, workers, or the public, and the plant is now returning to normal operations," the company said in a statement.
The plant is operated by Babcock and Wilcox for the U.S. Department of Energy, which oversees the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile. .

I flew over that nuke power plant in MS on accident one time on the night of 10/31/01, lets just say that getting back to RSN (Ruston, LA) was very interesting.

We hunted directly across the lake from the North Anna Reactor yesterday. The echo of our shots off the reactor dome was really loud. Best part is that you can see the ducks glowing long before LST.

I've heard if you get too close to the one up here, nice men with machine guns will politely ask you to leave. I've also heard that their boat is very fast. Never had the urge to get close enough to find out first hand.

Now when the Nuke subs come into Hampton Roads, you better reel yo shit in and get to stepping. Ever looked at a quad 50 from the other end? Dudes get real serious about that. You get a warning horn and the next one is a shot across the bow from the aforementioned quad 50. The wake off those subs is something to behold. 24' Hydra-Sports walk around and the wave crashed on the windshield. Lucky the hatch was closed and we had curtains on the T-top.
