Me and my dad were talkin bout this not too long ago. He used to work at skeeter and rigged a lot of boats for pros and uptown customers. He also did a lot of testing boats and props at turbo props. He says he doesnt really care for Hydro steering because you get basically no feedback from the motor. With cables you can feel everything better, wich i guess can be both bad and good, but he prefers the cable steering and i agree. Just my .02

I've got hydraulic if you wanna try 'em out. It sure is nice to be able to let go of the wheel, and to be able to turn it with one finger. I've got no complaints.

It's you money. Spend it how you want. But if you're thinkin about goin wit teleflex steerin to save money, think about how much it's gonna cost you to repair or replace everytime you put dat motor in a tough spot.

if it were me gettin a steering rig, id get the hydro. After all, the reason for steering is ease of operation. What good would it do if you had to fight the motor just as much as a tiller. but thats just me, your the one with the big pockets for this chit!

Mine is a bitch to turn with the hydro steering its is a dual set up but couldn't see trying to turn one with anything else but hydraulic steering. I think the foot on these Motors is so far back it takes alot more force than a outboard would to turn. Anytime im running im fighting the wheel to turn

What hyd unit are you using? I think Peck has hyd on the duel pro drives and he turns that thing like no bodies business.

Call GT or pm triple threat and see what hes running. I don't think he has a problem with his. Most single motors are running the Uflex side mount. Not to sure about the duels but it shouldnt be hard thats for sure.

I ran a cc with Teleflex this weekend for a while. It wasn't hard to turn at all. The hydro was easier though...

Haven't run either on a mudmotor, but I've run both on bass boats. The cables SUCK. They are always freezing up and having to be replaced often. This is in a clean water environment which I guess would be great for those Gator Tail guys and YOU! I can't imagine what a pain they would be if you are steadily throwing mud on them.

100% go with the hydraulic.

You won't regret it, especially if you're stickin' with PD. The hydraulics they use are STOUT.

You won't regret going hydraulic. I don't even own a mud boat yet, but have had Teleflex and Hynautic (now owned by Teleflex I think) hydraulic steering on four other boats. Teleflex is fairly prominent in hydraulic steering, but they have had some seal (helm and cylinder) issues lately. Customer service with teleflex is pretty good, so long as you choose to correspond via e-mail, don't wait for a phone call.

I have been hearing good things about Uflex hydraulic steering, but don't have any first hand experience.

You should not have any problems getting a steering head/cylinder with enough power to move a mud motor, but if you want fingertip control, Teleflex also offers a power assist system for another grand or so.

anti-feed back teleflex is shit!!! do not get it there is a small clutch system in the helm, mine froze up and broke the gears in there. i now have the teleflex and its great, ive been in the mud and haven't had any trouble with it.
