 Remote trim switch for GTR?
I vaguely remember somebody making a remote trim switch for a 35 GTR. I hate the trim being on the tiller. I want to move it to my grab bar. Anybody have any ideas? GT is telling me it can't be done. I'm not buying it.

It can be done I've seen a few pics of people that did it. Lots of very confusing diagrams.....

I dont see why you cant extend the wires that connect to the original switch to the grab bar

Re: Remote trim switch for GTR?
It's just wiring it can't be that hard just change the the whole box... Reduce the box size just for the drive selector switch and maybe the key. Put your trim anywhere you want I know that I am making some mods to my boat after duck season and this will be at the top of my list the box interferes with my blind when I hunting deep water grass
I know I've seen a havoc with the box on the grab rail

Re: Remote trim switch for GTR?
I think if you're only wanting a single trim switch, and mearly relocating it to the grab bar, it's not big deal. The confusion and complexity comes when you want to add an additional switch. Most that have discussed it want two switches. One one tiller and one on the grab bar, leaving the tiller switch functional for when you're having to deal with mud work. I guess you need to evaluate your needs and decide whether you only need one switch (ie...never have to deal with thick soupy mud). If your above average usage is running deeper water, then do as suggested above. Pull the switch and wiring from the box, splice additional (same gage) wire and house the switch on your grab handle.
I've only had to really work my motor once, but just as soon as I limit myself to only one switch on the grab handle, I'm undoubtedly gonna need it on the tiller.

Re: Remote trim switch for GTR?
What trim unit does the GTR run? Is it there own or do they use a major manufacturers unit? If so see if they offer the wiring harness and use it. I know that Yamaha at least maybe merc has dual switches one on the cowl and one at the helm so it isn't impossible and doesn't seem that it would be too hard as long as you are or have someone somewhat electrically inclined just need a power lead to each sw another three way sw closed center and run a lead from the new switch to the corresponding sides up/down sounds simple but I'm not 100% familiar with the trim unit

Re: Remote trim switch for GTR?
The gator tail trim switch does not use relays. If you want 2 switches you have to replace your factory switch and add some relays which are pretty expensive unless you get some cheap ass ones that will eventually fail at the worst time. It takes a high amp waterproof relay. Here is a thread you can check out.

You can keep the stock switch.

Re: Remote trim switch for GTR?
Look up of trim switch help needed. Will posted it up. To use your stock switch you will have to put diodes in line on your stock switch. That will keep power from your new switches back feeding up to old switch. You will also need to take the ground circuit away from the old switch. Just unplug it. You can now run as Many switches as you want. I like the stock switch in the control box water proof and works well.
