Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
I run a 4500 on a 1751 excel. Had a 3 blade prop on it and was gettin 31mph with just me and 26-28mph with 4 guys. Put a 2 blade on it and now I'm gettin 35mph with 2 guys, hadn't checked the 2 blade with a load yet. Guy I know has the 5500 on the same size boat only it's the f4 his gets about the same speeds as mine. The black death motors are beast that's for sure.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
I'm running that rig right now. It will easily hit 30 with just me before it hits the rev limiter. The built in rev limiter will be your holdback on that rig. I can hit it easily with three people in the boat. You have to run the prop lower than normal to keep it off the limiter (or just run half throttle). It's a fun setup though. You will like it. I had to put the battery up front to keep it from porposing at about 28mph when by myself.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
Are you making the front deck flush with the top of the gunnels? If so, are the catwalks flush also? If so...ask Kent about making the gun box and half box taller with recessed lids so everything is flush with the catwalks and the front deck. it makes the boat really clean looking and nice to fish from.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
I have a Gator Trax 1750HD with a MB 5500 and mine will only run 31-32 mph with my by myself and 28-29 with one other person and a lite hunting load. I also have a two blade on mine.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
im looking for noise reduction...plain and simple.... i dont care if i loose 1-2mph due to cutting down the noise factor...as long as i dont lose 5mph...i dont really care, its not that big of a deal to me

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
I've read of a few guys on here who've had problems with the stock exhaust dropping metal into the cylinder but I don't know if the Briggs stainless exhaust will do the same thing. A friend of mine just put a Marsh Mellow on and he's real happy with it and says it's a lot quieter than the dual exhaust on my engine.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
Would also consider adding the reciever hitch. It allows for alot of options and can NOT be added after the boat is built. It is the one option I wish I had on my GT that I don't.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
A buddy of mine is running a similar rig same motor. He also said he is hitting the rev limiter he ended up putting a 48 tooth gear in the low end to keep the power but bring the Rpms down. He said too he would hit the rev limiter even with 2 guys in the boat.

Re: 16x44 gator trax and mb 5500 black death series
I run a 1854 with a 4500BD and I get 26.7 with 3 guys 220,210 and 260. This was on the first time out with the boat. If a would have played a little with the trim and shifted the weight in the boat a little i think I could have gotten up around 27.5.

Um, probably sold the boat 3 yrs ago whenever he figured out it wasn't gonna run 35 3 deep like that other fella said... This threads from 2011. It is now a zombie thread, brought back to life, and can not be stopped...
