Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
Not alot of MB folks here to begin with. Quite a few of the old MB/GT circle jerkers seem to have jumped ship and run some other hull. Including other brand MMs.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
i think they look good & you can get 100% customization, but you pay through the nose for it vs others. that was my conclusion in them vs go devil hulls. i've since heard they're pretty heavy - but suspect it's all the add on's. also, they like rounded chine for mud control & most here seem to like tapered & now stepped for higher speeds. someone on here had one of their hulls w/ monster dents in the bottom from bow to stern, which g trax claimed was from abuse & refused to repair/replace under warranty. my 2 cents

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
gatortrax is a nice boat. u can customize it to be a pimpmobile or plain, whatever u choose. most people who run gatortraxx hulls have mudbuddy's, and there are only a couple of mb's down here, so it would stand to reason that's why u don't hear that much about them. me, i'll take a skiff and be happy.

I looked at a couple and I was considering one until I saw the owner calling a bunch of people morons on another forum.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
Have owned three...good boats. Never had an issue with any. I have run Mudbuddy and Prodrive motors on them. I still hunt quite a bit with the guy who bought my original 2004 GT boat. It's as solid as the day I took delivery of it. They are a round chine boat, which works optimally in some conditions. Like DA said, you can get them customized up the yin-yang.
I am running a Phowler now. Have run it only a couple of times since getting it but I am gonna like it based on experiences so far.
I would agree that the reason you don't see them mentioned is that there are not too many Mudbuddy guys on this board.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
got one (3-man gator hide). good duck huntin/ bow fishin rig (with the drop in decks). very comfortable if ya hunt out your boat. boats heavy though (like a sherman tank heavy), smallest motor i'd put on it'd be a MB 45, but i would tell you go with a PD or GT and mod it up. and yeah aint no love on MMT fo MB

They are around, ours is a brick shithouse of a boat. I just don't see how you could dent one buy misusing it. I have run ours way over what you consider normal loads and never seen it buckle. had well over a 1000 pounds of wood in it when we built a blind.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
No, but I know 2 people that do and I know what I see with my own eyes. No doubt that other hulls can be damaged as well. I disagree that the damage will be the same as they are all designed a little different. Some braced better than others. I have a few hooks in my 3/16" bottom. But 1 hull has what I would consider average wear and hooks and the other looks like a mine field with a valley down the middle running from the bottom of the rake to the transom. Why the difference between the 2 GT hulls, got me cause they run the same water. Other than about 3 years difference in age they are the same size and the newer hull has the damage.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
Gator Trax is a very sound hull that has been tested for many years. We live in South Florida, hunt the everglades, Lake okeechobee and other places, own one, and will never replace it with any other brand. You can run it over stumps, sand flats, mud, you name it, it will resist much more punishment than some other brands. By the way, this one is a GT 18' X 44" with a modded Vanguard getting close to the 6000 model. Won't porpoise @ 34 MPH and will turn in a dime. GRAT HULL, VERY WELL DESIGNED AND BUILT. Normal cruise speed 3950 RPM @ 27 MPH (2 hunters with all gear + blind). Top RPM's 4560 well trimmed @ 33/34 MPH (2 hunters all gear + blind) in a calm day, deep water. Pictures on the forum very soon.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
I think GTrax boats are made as well as any other... I just don't agree with the design. I know everyone has their own opinion... but I don't like round chines, and think that double angled transom is silly. It makes them drag ass in shallow water.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
Crews: I do not have that situation with my GT as it does not drag the lower transom in the shallow or deep water, it is extremely well balanced and performs flawlessly. One thing I agree with you is I don't lime the looks of the double angled transom, but it helps in some situations, also we have round chines and that combination for us is great. If I were to make a change in design, the only thing I might add to a new boat will be the Huntdeck, w/o modifying the width of the hull but going instead of 18" to 17" huntdeck that will take me to 18'-4" lenght. That size boat with my engine combintion is an awesome one. Thanks,

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
"just for the sake of conversation.... pull up beside a boat that doesn't have the tapered transom/round chine, and stop in shallow water. I'd be willing to bet yours is dragging ass more than a square chine, square transom boat. I'd also be willing to bet that with the same hp motor, a squared off boat would take off alot faster in shallow water."As I said before, the only change I might add to my next boat will be adding a huntdeck. That will allow the hull of the boat to have more surface and add planning area independently of weight, changing the center of gravity and consequently changing also the attitude of the boat. Said that, sometimes words are not able to express full knowledge of aerodinamics and in this case, hydrodynamics which in the context of what we speak here are basic part of design and construction of a real sea worthy vessel independent of the intended use. Of course, each one of us is entitled to his own opinion which in the long term will help many others when doing their homework to buy a new boat and/or a new engine assembly as it will bring questions and of course real good answers. Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
I have owned 3 GatorTrax boats (two with hunt decks) and none of them have had that angled transom. GT will build boats without it if people want them that way.
I'd agree that the harder the chine on a boat the shallower the draft (all other things being equal) but I can tell you that in the first few trips in my new taper chine boat I can really feel the thing wanting to break away in full power turns. That's something I never had to worry about in the GatorTrax boats.

You have your own opinions, and that is good. Anyway, mathematics and engineering were intended as help to others reading this post. Every one here wins. you, me and the ones that sooner or later will ask the same questions about which boat to buy and why. Great post, enjoy your ride as much as I enjoy mine. That's whats all about.

OPINIONS, OPINION, OPINIONS.Facts to me: 1.- Intended use. 2.- Intended use geography. 3.- Backwash ????, as you said, learn how to drive, for the ones that don't know. 4.- Tiller of engine allows more room inside, no need of bigger boat=more weight. 5.- Dog platform w/o intruding inside the boat. (No need to get wet). 6.- Added flotation without adding boxes inside the boat. 7.- Last but not least: OPINIONS, OPINION, OPINIONS. Now there's more meat to cut here. Till the next chapter.

Re: not much talk about Gator Trax ?
Two of my three GT boats had huntdecks and I loved them when paired with Hyperdrives. To me the huntdeck becomes much more valuable if you are running a boat with flotation, because your rear flotation is in the hunt deck. Now, don't give me that "get a longer boat" argument...I have had two huntdeck duck boats and I am on my third without it. All the boats I have had without hunt decks had bulky flotation boxes eating up inside space.
The reason I ultimately got rid of my huntdeck GatorTrax boat was that I switched to a Prodrive motor. The downfalls of running a PD motor on a huntdeck boat are: 1) You have to run a tiller handle extension, which increases the amount you have to lean to make hard turns. 2) You have to separate the hydraulic trim pump, extend electrical cables and hydraulic hoses, and have that crap snaking over the hunt deck. 3) Short transom Prodrive motor, without the floating handle that the MB has, is a PITA to drive standing...or should I say you have to drive hunching over if you are not driving sitting. 4) You have to park your butt on the hunt deck to reach the FPR release knob.
I love my Prodrive and especially the full power reverse feature...so much that I sold my beloved hunt deck GT and now have a new hull. I like it, but I sure will miss the interior space created by the lack of flotation boxes inside the boat.
As I said, if you are not running flotation the hunt deck is arguably a less compelling feature.
