Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
I run a MB Mini. It fit what I needed, good power without the extra weight. That is something to be considered. Don't buy what other people are buying just because they say so. Get what fits your boat and your conditions and for "FORKS SAKE" test drive them!

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
go demo, and demo them da same way u plan on usin them. Anybody who plunks $6K on a MM based on what dey heard on da www is a dumbass and deserves da POS dey may end up with.
Be careful of what you hear and listen to. You will get some reports from folks with very little experience.... and it ain't that they're not truthful..... they're just too fukin ignorant & inexperienced to understand da whole picture and will make like comparisons when it ain't really apples to apples.
When it comes to most performance issues between the 3 (PD, GT, GD) in every realm, der is far more difference in what hull it's on & who's on da tiller than der is actual performance difference between da units. Each has it's unique capabilities & advantages.
I don't just play around with my MM, I use it commercially as well... crawfishin in swamps and terrain just like u described. Flooded woods with a hard bottom and littered with stumps, cypress knees, & logs is my playgrounds. Don't let nobody fool you into thinkin u gotta have a balanced unit to run a lot stumps & logs.... I can guarantee you I hit more shit in a yr. than majority of folks on here combined will hit in a lifetime, and no activity can come anywhere near close to being as abusive on a MM than crawfishing... some manufacturers won't even warranty a MM that has been used for crawfishing. That being said, I run a Pro-Drive.... and have been for about 5 yrs. During those 5 yrs. I've put well over 2000 hrs. on a combination of units. I wouldn't change a single thing today.
Good luck.

IMHO you cant bet a PD in shallow tight flooded timber, others have the long tail that sticks out, PDs is like a standard outboard.

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
Demo, Demo, Demo!!!! I have a 32PD on a center console. I have seen all MM run and they all break, need maintenance, etc. PD have been beaten up for several years now by some of the hardest drivers out there and still run like nothing happened. All I know is mine suites me for what I use it for as do most people's on here. You need to look at the over all picture of what your going to be doing with your motor. I hunt, fish and booze cruise in mine. I have dragged my motor across half of the City of New Orleans at night when my old trim cable broke. Didn't see the motor down and all of the lovely citizens around here didn't seem to care to tell me neither. All it did was scratch the skeg up; No damage otherwise. The potholes down here are bad too, FYI. Reverse is awesome to have but FPR is even better b/c of the way it pushes the water under the boat and lifts up the a$$ end. Instant reverse is great too but I found that it doesn't bite quit as hard in mud. I would seriously look at them all before spending that type of money. JMHO!! Here is another wrench thrown in the mix though, LOOK AT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!! I can only speak from a PD point of view but...... I coudn't dream of having better Customer satisfaction from Pro-Drive. I've seen it personally and experienced it too.

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
Here's my take...
1 pd is by FAR the easiest to drive, including gt.
2 pd can take off in just as shallow water as any of the rest of them
3 I've been up some pretty narrow trails where you can't spin the boat around. You have two options from there... Drive out the pd, or push out your instant reverse gt. Instant has it's place of course... Works great almost all the time, but when the shit hits the fan............. I'll take FPR

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
My take on it all!! You have 2 pages of people trying to sale you a pd or gt. you came on here with your mind already made up to buy a mb. Everything these fellers have said is pretty much riteon in their expereances except crews!! (The dud needs to get his head out of pd azz) So rather you are trolling or truthful i think you have just wasted all our time. If you been around mm for the past 2 years like you said and its all been around mb then you deserve the what you get. So go back to the mb websight and tell them all that they can kiss mmt's azz!!

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
you gotta have thick skin around here bro. i can't really tell ya why some seem more bothered than others (although i'm sure river has an explanation).......that's just the way it is. when they say trolling.......some have came on here from other sites acting clueless just to get a shitstorm started. this mm world is like a big soapopera. once you do some reading here and get some background info then you will understand where some of the hostilty stems from.

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
dont get me wrong, GF sold me a mudbuddy LT for a DU raffle ten years ago for a deal, helped raise a tone of money, but that was pre surface drive. i've never traded with them personally otherwise and have patiently waited for the other guys to perfect their offerings. the only known comparison i've been around is a MB HD 31hp that is a great motor except that on consecutive annual trips to arkansas it failed (one briggs issue and the other prop snapped). the trim switch kept shorting out due to water and the trim actuator was smashed to oblivion, and oh yeah the muffler kept losing it's bolts until it was broken and had to be welded. other than that it was a great motor (until the air cleaner came up missing for no known reason while in the swamp). so honestly, i damn near pray for something better personally, but better is what i'm looking for, not another hurricane of $200 oopsies.

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
so the real hard part (aside from scratching up $6k for a GTR) someone tell my why not to buy a GTR... are their any nags that you just have to live with? how's the trim function? is it at all similar to MB older electric trim? same engines across the board right?

scroll down here a bit until you see this PD rig pulling the MB rig out of in reverse this isnt someone giving their opinion this is visual proof PD FPR has no equal when it comes to mud motors. http://www.refugeforums.com/refuge/show ... ost7226231You want to be a man or a mouse ? If a man, get the PD with the new 3second hydro FPR.

Re: MB vs PD Cage Match: NHB
the only thing that GT (in my opinion) doesn't have is... there reverse doesn't bite as hard as the PD. That's it!! Everything else is fantastic. I have seen the GTR fight harder to get out of some spots.

OK, HFG, here's the deal...I called you a troll first...and here's why...you come on the site and start a thread called "MB vs PD Cage Match"...come on Dude! What did you expect? Seriously, I'm a pretty straight shooter and don't yank chains...if you utilize the "search" feature, you'll find a wealth of information to help with your decision. But to be honest, with out taking a demo, you've already discovered all the info you can from this thread. Good Luck, Woody
