Re: Grab bar necessary with surface drive??? Necessary, no not absolutely necessary. However, my tiller is so low when underway, that I need the grab bar to hold onto. It also comes in handy when teaching the children how to operate the boat. I can hold onto the grab bar with one hand and the child with the other!

Like to have it there driving standing up running rapids... |

 I mostly use it on rocky rivers and it is so much nicer to not have to look or reach back to operate the controls. Now they are at my finger tips and no more turning/reaching around.. |
