 Re: catahoula lake
Why would anyone want to get in someone else's blind and then not have the courtesy to move if the owner showed up The attitude that I was here first is basically laziness, they didn't work for weeks on the blind, putting out hundreds of decoys and constantly watching water level to see if they got to adjust or pick up I can definitely understand getting the fight that will happen if someone refuses to move

There should not be floating or permanent blinds owned by private individuals on public lakes. Problem solved.

 Re: catahoula lake
Old school, what your saying is correct most places but not catahoula. It is a different animal. People have sport and are known spots.you say you would pick people decoys up cause their on private property that won't work either. These blinds are not make shift they are 20x10. With 1000 decoys. And people are there all day everyday of the week and watch out for the people around them because most likely they have been hunting around each other for 30 years and know who should be there and who shouldn't . Literally 50% of the people hunting out there are there everyday weekend weekdays morning evenings all day. U won't go get in someone's blind that morning before they get there you will get run out. Like I said it's not a little makeshift blind with 3 dozen decoys. It's a 20foot blind that somebody has been out there fighting the water level for a month trying to get it ready. They will be there!

 Re: catahoula lake
You have a deed for the blind? If not, it's public property.
Building a blind should not give you any special privileges. If you want to hunt on public property, you can get your ass up out of bed and get there first. You think you're entitled to a spot because you spent time working on it, well others spent their time working on a rig that is mobile. Not everyone like's to hunt the same fucking spot every day they hunt, but anyone should be able to hunt any piece of public hunting area whenever they wish as long as they get there first. I wouldn't be hunting there because you put a blind up, I'd be hunting there because that's where I found birds. If there was no blind there, I would still be there... Actually it's the only way I would be there, but not because I agree that it's "your" spot. I just got tired of dealing with assholes at sunrise trying to explain how they owned the public property I was hunting on. I don't need to get in the blind and I would actually be more likely to set up in my boat where I wanted to be, but I'd still have to deal with clowns like yourself trying to explain how I was too close to "your spot".
You call people who don't build blinds lazy. I call people who do build blinds lazy. The guys not building blinds are usually out scouting birds and working their ass off to stay on top of them almost more than they hunt. They're working on a mobile setup. They're getting up early to go claim their spots. The guys building blinds put in a couple weeks of time putting up a structure, they don't even go look anywhere else, and show up late to their hole expecting it to be vacant when they get there and make a scene when it isn't. That is lazy. That is a ridiculous sense of self entitlement. If you want to build a permanent blind, and it's legal, fine, I don't need one. If you want to build a blind and expect it to be vacant anytime you wish to use it, you should build it on your own damn property.

 Re: catahoula lake
this is some good reading. i never heard of shit like this. you get on water in alabama and try to run someone off it you would be laughed at. we own our property that has water frontage but we dont own the water. anyone can fish in a boat right in front of our property and nobody cares and if you did care you cant do shit about it. i guess shooting a duck must be better that getting a piece of pus. to some people. LOL

 Re: catahoula lake
I agree with y'all but I will say it again. It don't work like that on this lake! There are no open spots to put a boat blind. It's a wide open lake with a blind every 300 yds. Imagine a big lake where you can see as far as you can see water with 300 blinds in seeing distance. I have other places we hunt with a boat blind and you have to be there early to get your spot where you saw the birds that afternoon before and you have to pick up before 2:00 but catahoula is different. You don't really see any places or pockets where birds are. There are perm blinds on the lake and some are better than others depending on the area. The lake is predictable good spots are good every year. Shitty blinds are always shitty but those people still hunt them every year and don't move due to it being their spot which they are happy to have because as said earlier there are no open spots

Damn, 3 pages of this shit. I leave for the weekend and y'all still going at it I told y'all back on the first page, them fuckers are different over there. And I still believe to this day that if you brough the LDWF over there, they wouldn't do a damn thing. Perfect example, way back in the day, use to hunt evry now and then, swing schute back on the Attakapas WMA. It was the same bullshit. Problem is these clowns wouldn't just burn your blind, they would destroy your trucks, burn down your camps. I've even witnessed a crazy fucker shoot a hole in someones boat. Just wasn't worth going. To me, it wasn't worth it. Why put my kids in harms way because some dumb fuck beats to a different drum. Is it right and legal, hell no, but I'm too old to try and fix stupid.

 Re: catahoula lake
I'm not sure about catahoula but the lake I hunt you have to have a permit to have a blind on it and have to be 350 yards from another blind. And everyone out there that has a blind leaves there decoys out all hunting season and for the most part no one messes with ppl decoys.

 Re: catahoula lake
First of All, To the OP, I'd like to offer to help you out. We have 4 spots on catahoula we hunt. There have been blind in those spots for over 50 years. I would be more than willing to meet up with you out there, so you wouldnt have to deal with the crap that some of the areas on the lake go through year in and year out (all the shit over "blind ownership" and the like). We have a few new people every year that put blinds in near where we hunt, as other people quit, or move on to hunt elsewhere. Most of us know each other, or know of them, and we don't pull guns on people for being in the blinds. There's a LOT of room, and plenty of ducks. If Im not hunting in one of the blinds we built, I could care less if someone is hunting in it. If I show up and someone is in it, and they don't want to move, there's enough other empty blinds I can go get in, I don't worry about it. Wildlife and fisheries treats it as public, regardless of whether or not Hunt owns it still, so claiming ownership of anything out there is stupid, as is destroying other people's efforts. Putting a blind too close to another has many issues, even though it is public, but none of them revolve around "ownership" cause you don't own squat. It's not a behavior or a feeling that's gonna change any minds of those that think they own their spot though, so i'll quit on that. But really, Why would you want to hunt that close to someone else? Competetion is bad enough from 300ish yards. There are "spots" out there to be used (i see blinds every year that don't get brushed and decoyed, and have even parked my boat and thrown out a few decoys to hunt those spots). It's just a matter of doing some homework. There are plenty of jackasses that think they're right because they've been out there, but I we're all there for the same reason. Ducks. Acting that way is utterly useless and stupid. We've even shifted our blind a bit to make room for a guy to put a blind in so we wouldnt be too close. So to the OP (and others who think everyone that hunts catahoula are that way), if you want to hunt out there, let me know, and I'll be the anti-, and do my best to put you on some good hunting withOUT some jackass threatening you.
Russ

 Re: catahoula lake
I hunt Catahoula as well. Even if you have a spot already it is still a cluster. The guy whose blind is behind us has hunted that spot for 40 years and the hoodlums out there shot all of his decoys intentionally (hundreds of decoys). About a dozen of us have been hunting one blind for 12 years (and lots more people have been told they could use the blind so there is always someone hunting there), but a punk who thinks he owns the lake because his grandpappy hunted some of those spots 20 years ago burned down multiple blinds this year trying to run off people and take their spots. If he is not careful and threatens the wrong people, he will end up dead. I will tell you how it could happen. There was an article in the newspaper just this week where 3 young punks all were killed. Someone had broken into this guys truck multiple times and he had all he could take. When he caught the 3 guys breaking into his truck, he probably snapped, because he killed every last one of them and is now facing murder charges. This guy, the CENLA local who has burned down multiple people's blinds, is probably going to threaten the wrong people one day trying to take a spot from someone else and get killed. At least the lawmakers will consider changing the laws then. These other guys aren't joking when they say every spot is taken. Pretty much anywhere you hunt the BB's are raining down on you from the blinds around you. You pretty much just get used to it and keep your head down when you see them shoot. Personally I have been enjoying hunting more elsewhere lately. Yes, there are a zillion ducks out there before the season starts, but after opening day, they run off every single duck on the lake. It used to be that ducks would stay in the reserve, but they have not been the last couple years because to make the fishermen happy the Corp/LDWF have been keeping more water on the lake in the summer which means no grass\food growing in the reserve for the ducks to eat in the winter. There has been zero grass in the reserve for the last two years Also, be prepared to do pass shooting. Ducks don't decoy on Catahoula like they do elsewhere I have noticed. Simply too many blinds shooting at them.

Almost sounds like a threat. If the hunter didn't leave his deeks out, they wouldn't have got shot up. I don't care "how it is up there", its still public land.
