Post subject: | Who runs a black boat? |
I swear I saw pics a while back of a boat painted all black or with black camo -think it might have been powered by a Pro-Drive. Anybody own one or got any pics? I'm building a new rig and think I want to paint it a base black with a little camo over the top. Thanks ! |

I painted mine black because I'm going to sell it, and I think it's an excellent base color for a paint job, whatever pattern the new owner may want to choose. But I'd never leave it black by itself if I was going to keep it. |

I don't get the black boat thing. Black stands out everywhere. How the hell do you hide a black boat? |

Black would seem to work well in shadowed areas, in the timber or along a slough bank. Here is what a green hull looks like when pulled into the brush, he does have a few PMI oak branches along the gunnels. P6040031.JPG Camo hulls seem to stick out more, unless it is the same pattern as the vegitation you hunt in. |

Yeah, I'm a dumazz. US military...dumazzes also. Running around in their non-black tanks, uniforms, Humvees, jet fighters. Get those boys some Flat Rusto rattle cans. I If you hunt in the daylight, black doesn't hide worth shit. Camo doesn't only blend, it breaks up the outline. Blurs the outline with the background. Hey, maybe yalls swamps are so dark you need to pump in daylight, I'm no FE on that. I do know that shadows falling on lighter camo has a far greater camo effect than shadows falling on an already dark background. It's why Natgear and yes, even the old brown WWII camo works. Solid tan background with a few darker blobs. Any shadows or dark/solid objects between you and the wearer are translated by the eye as a solid line thus breaking up the silhouette of the camo wearer. This is impossible with a sold dark color. Check out the newest trend in bowhunting. Snow camo for hunting in trees. Body outline blurs with the sky and the light colors while the sticks and shadows blend in. Check out the new USMC digital camo. Works well at 500meters and 50 meters. Because it doesn't "Black out" at 40 yards like patterns such as mossy oak break up. Brinkley, which is it? it works so great or you don't feel like spending the money? I could give a rip either way, just pointing out the dichotomy of your logic. |

It was a $500.00 bet up here a few years back. Was MOBU (mossy oak break up) better than Natgear. The two guys that were involved are both friends of mine and in the process I learned more about camo than needed. In the end, Natgear was the flat out bomb. Whatever. This website will argue for days over anything why should this be any different? ![]() |

Crap. One little question and ya'll make a discussion out of it. I just thought the boat might look slick painted black. Be way to hot in the summer fishing though... River, Why pick one boat when I can have 'em all -just not at the same time. The airboat was a damn nuisance. Everyone knew which hole I was hunting and the game wardens hated me. Even got 'em banned on a refuge I hunt. Back to the tunnel hull for me ![]() |
