Post subject:  Prodrive or Mudbuddy
Hey fella's! Need some help I am buying a new mud motor I will be running in mostly timber. I am looking at the prodrive 36 with the manual reverse or mudbuddy 35 hunter. I will be making my purchase at the end of the month. First mud motor just need some advice. Thanks

I've never run a mudbuddy. But I have 36 PD on a 1748 PD boat. It is a beast. I run mostly in the marsh but would not be concerned at all running it in timber. In fact, I think the reverse is more protected with a PD so running a PD in timber might have even more of an advantage. I don't think you could lose either way. Hook up with some buddies and run both to see for yourself.

im a pro-drive guy but for timber i would say gator-tail because of the instant reverse, i wouldnt go with mudbuddy in timber though, just my oppinion

I think i am leaning more toward the prodrive. Because it having reverse and being gear driven. Here in Indiana not alot of people have surface drive motors.

i heard through the grapevine that pro-drive is comming out with the instant reverse. they are still testing and making adjustments to it though. so if i were you id look into that because there is nothing better than instant reverse in the woods. the pro-drive with the instant reverse will still have FPR

To answer your question Team Camo for some reason MM are not very popular up here. I mean you might see a longtail every now and then. I have scavenger long tail on a small boat, I have recently bought a new boat. There is so many places to hunt and there is no way to get back in some of these places with a OB. I do have a buddy that has a prodrive 27 and likes it. I was just wanting to get some more input on other mud motors.

;) Gotcha. I guess I misunderstood what ya meant. Like Gary said, somebody will be more than happy to show off their rig. If nobody there has one, then ya just might need to make a lil road trip & hook up with somebody from on here. Everyone has their own personal preference, for me it's MB all the way, but I'm runnin marsh, not swamp. Good luck either way ya go.

mason just cuz u suck peck and them bird i mean come on now ur nose is shit stained brown.... man test drive them if u can and by the one that fit ur needs the most the all r good motors pd gtr mb gdsd it just depends on u man every body will have there opinions but imo they all r good motors just depends on what fits u the best good luck with ur decsion

I ran a MB 25 Kohler for 4 years and now I'm running the new MB 4500 BD CDI and I won't hesitate to buy another when the time comes...I like the low profile stature of the MB...let you get under low hanging branches and is very forgiving when you hit stumps...

deadbird has some good advice. Do what he says, especially the part about test driving both.

I ran Hyperdrives for four seasons and have run a Prodrive for the last two. Both good motors. Both have their advantages. For my needs, I really like the full power reverse.

What has not been mentioned but is very important in the selecton process is the dealer. If you are have dealers in your area for each brand of motor, the dealer you get the best impression of should factor into the decision of what to buy. When it's two days before the opener and your dealer puts his plans aside to get you and your broken motor back on to the water you will appreciate the value of what he brings to the table.

Hey boss,
I live in Indianapolis. I've owned a MB 35 HD, and now I own a PD 36. I've run a GT tons. I used to run a beavertail longtail. I know my chit.

The prodrive has quicker steering response. It takes a lot less tiller movement to move the motor. The tiller comes into your boat a lot shorter than a MB. The controls on a MB are easier to operate, since they are on the very front of the tiller. The PD is about half way back the handle. The GT sucks, in my opinion. I hate having to turn around backwards to put the motor in gear, or trim it. Plus the tiller on the GT is like a got damn broom handle and is low. My opinion. The MB has a prop further back from the hull, so in theory it should run in a little shallower water while on step, although after having both it does not seem to be any factor, really. The PD has a much shorter profile while in storage, so you could put the boat into a shorter garage than you could a MB. That is the real reason I bought the PD. The FPR on a PD is great for getting you out of an emergency, but it is not practical for maneuvering in deep water, or just quickly going to reverse.

These are just some of my opinions after owning both. Both the MB and the PD are EXCELLENT motors, and I would own either one in a heartbeat. And I have.

I might take you up on that. I travel to Indy every now and then for work. So I might give you call. I think I made my decision on the Prodrive I think it will fit my needs a lot quicker steering response, and the FPR. But I defintely would like to test drive one. THANKS!

But seriously test drive them before you buy one. They are all good motors and what ever choice you make will be the right one. Good luck with your buy, and if there is anything i can help you with don't hesitate to call.

That is absolutely the best advice. Drive as many as you can (although around here it's hard) and decides what is best for you. What I like may not be what you like. They are all an awesome product, and all have different strong points. Take care my man.
