Well, I've burnt up my 3rd super winch 2000 in about 125 hours..... I don't have a problem using the winch trim, but it just isn't reliable.

Should I try another brand winch? If so, which one?

Or should I pony up and get the hydrolic replacement?

Thanks.

You could always go to a better winch. You know the warn's are a quality product but the prices are pretty steep, and may put you in the ballpark of a hydro set up.

Some of the guys on here have been having good luck with the gorilla winch products on ebay. They recently changed the name of the company but still the same product. Prices are more similar to the superwinch. I have 2 of the superwinches and haven't had any problems yet. One on the front of the boat, and one for the trim.

You need to find one with a strong brake that can hold the weight of the motor. Thats what failed on all of mine. 3 or 4 of em.

run one of each righ tnow and i kinda like the winch trim better than the hydro.....after busting 2 pumps it seams the winch would be easer to fix when it does break.

Before you change search how many peopel have had problems out of the hydro...line busting, no power, cracket pumps, pusted parts.....

If you loose a winch you can still get back to the ramp by just taking up the slack....bust a hydro and you need some redneckn to get back. I keep 18" of cable with a loop on both ends in my boat just incase i bust a line or crack another bar.

Kind of what I was thinking, James..... I ended up just getting another superwinch2000. As it turns out, I had bought a $6.99 warranty for it at Northern Tool and they gave me a brand new one for free.

Glad it worked out for you. For the record, I'm still using my original winch trim, & it hasn't let me down yet.

Now watch it fail this weekend now that I've bragged on it.

I put that same blue rope on mine as well. Got it off ebay. Had it break once, so I'm gonna stick with the new cable for a little while and see how it does.

Could you not make an electric actuator work for a trim? Mounting plate would be the hardest thing...one from hydralic trim may work... never seen one of those up close either.

To use the winch trim do you just mainly need a special bracket? Sorry for the questions....dont really have time to search right now and I've never seen them in person. Just know what I got.

Here is an idea I had a while back.... its off the wall but

The manual trim uses a screw( i call it) for its trim. What if you used something like this..... Im not sure how fast it is but...

not able to see the image but if you r talking about a servo motor they would work just have to find one that will hold up.

Brinkley - Its just a 12V car jack. It has the long screw like on the manual trim.

CB - I'll just keep turnin the handle for now. I just dont know how I like the looks of the hydraulic trim..

On that jack, the motor must spin a gear that turns the screw. If you removed the wheel off the bolt on the pd, and took the motor off the jack, maybe you could get the gear to spin the bolt. I see what you're trying to do. Looks like a lot of headache to me... How much are those little jacks? Or can you buy the motor separately?

Quick question that is sort of relevant. Does anyone know if you were to call PD and order a hydro trim to replace your manual, would that new trim unit come with a 1 year warrenty?

Owen, I think it would. I know they gave us a warranty on the new lower unit...

my first busted hydro pump was not quite 2 yrs old and they sent me a replacement which was used. They had to do this becasue they no longer used the style pump. when that one busted i had to purchas the new pump for 275??? i think. I'm sure if it goes out they will send a new one but the way my luck is i would have to pony up and purchas one.
