I'm looking for some input on the best MM for my application. I'll be running a 1854 custom hull 3/16 bottom, 1/8 sides, basically a bare hull. In the winter, I hunt the Atchafalaya Main Delta and Flooded timber on the NE LA oxbows. In the spring, I frog and run traps in the spillway. The stuff in NE LA is a log infested hell hole. The spillway is full of stumps and lillies etc. I spend about 30 days a year hunting the Main Delta, and about 150 days in the spillway. Basically I run: Mud 20% Flooded timber 20% Swamp(stumps, vegitation) 60% I'm looking at Prodrive and Gatortail, I've driven the gatortail, but not the Prodrive. I plan on test driving both on my hull. Ease of operation, durability and the ability to operate in tight, bumpy spaces is top priority. I see pros and cons in both, I'm just trying to see if anyone that runs the same terrain has any suggestions. I've used the search function, but I'm tired of wading through the cheerleading. Thanks guys. |

Personally I think the Pro-Drive is better in the stumps and vegetation and the Gator-Tail is better in the mud. Both should do just fine in the timber. Just my 2 cents. You've got the right idea! Test drive them both on your hull and see which one YOU prefer. |

vegitation prodrive wins in my opinion... I've seen where the FPR has helped where the GTR reverse wouldnt have done much. for all around shallow water and mud they are both neck and neck. Prodrives in my opinion are easier to drive. Much like a outboard motor. A gatortail can and will wear your arm out if sitting down. I've drivin both and like you I run a lot of marsh and lillies with stumps.. The prodrive does great. |

I'm not saying the pd isn't easier to drive cause I've never driven one but I've taken my gt on 5 hour joy rides and the only issue I've had is the vibration at the handle making my hand numb. That happened with my gd also so I'm assuming it's the vibs from Briggs motor. I do know the gt does well in the mud and the stumps. I haven't run much vegetation. But I've had no problems when I've hit objects in the water, ie stumps, pipe, concrete. And some of those were at wot. |

Ran Prodrives for years before switching to a Gator-Tail,The only thing prodrive beats the Gator-Tail in is the power in reverse!!But,I will say that the instant reverse on the Gator-Tail is alot nicer to have than the fpr! ![]() Like everybody says,Go drive them yourself and get what suits you!! |
