I have a 1656 Mod V aluminum CC boat. The whole boat is 1/8" thick aluminum including diamond plate floor. I will be using the boat for 100% fishing going through mostly grass and deep water. It will hit ocasional mud when fishing for reds in the marsh. The goal I am trying to achieve is to be able to run 30+ mph with 2 guys loaded for fishing long distances in deep water. I was thinking of dual 23hp GTR's. I like the idea of having 2 motors for reliability. I have been searching the forum and I don't see anyone running duals on anything smaller than 18'. I would appreciate anyone's input on what the best application would be for my boat. |

if you dont need a mud motor buy a outboard... if you really want duals i'd go with a 20x60 with dual 35s |

The dual's will squat like a sumbitch on a 16 foot boat. That is why you won't see them on a boat less than 18'. Also, I don't think you'd get the kinda speed you think you would anyway. The dual's won't really make the boat much faster. Little bit, but not much. What they will do, is carry a hell of a load. Be better off with a stage 1 35 for what you want to do. That's a heavy boat, and the mod-v will hurt your speeds no matter what mm you put on it. Why are you looking at mm's anyway? You said long distances in deep water? Can you not pole around? I was actually thinkin longtails for some reason when I posted that. You may run around 30 with dual gtr 23's. I'm really not sure. The reason you won't gain a ton of speed is the props. You can only turn a prop with so much pitch so fast. Two of them spinning the same speed isn't gonna make you go much faster. Still can't put duals on that boat. If you're gonna try to keep it, put a stage 1 35 on it. I'd recommend getting a whole new package. |

Cut a tunnel in that boat and put a 60 hp on a jack plate. If you want a MM on that boat, you will not get the performance you want. I have a stock 35 mb on a 16 ft semi v. It works, but not to its full potential. |

Thanks for your input. I am just looking to make my boat universal. I want something that I can fish the marsh, fish in open water, and go froggin every now and then. Can anyone tell me how they think a 35hp GTR with a stage 1 kit would work on my boat? Thanks |
