i may be buying an sd frame with no motor, and am searching for engines. my question is, why the hell are vertical shaft motors about 30% less $$ than horizontal shaft? i know there are differences in the oil sump system but i didnt think it went much further than that. just curious. thanks,Rod |

You can get them on ebay, but you can find them cheaper... Like 1200 or less I believe, last I checked they were around 1500 shipped on ebay. Mikuni and exhaust are a must though, but still less than the cost of a briggs. Model is a gth990 |

Just my .02, but there's NO WAY I'd got with a Genny. All the hype about em bein so bad ass, but when my buddy bought into it, his was a turd. Bone stock, it would barely even plane his boat, add Mikuni & gut the exhaust (because he can't find anyone offerin aftermarket performance exhaust for it) and it will basically keep up with a stock 35 Briggs. I know there's a few guys on here runnin em, glad they're havin good luck with em, but I personally wouldn't. Here's a new 35 Vangguard I saw on Ebay for $2k tyd. http://cgi.ebay.com/35hp-Briggs-Stratto ... 53e4e3f5a6 |
