Would a 1751SWF4 Excel with 23 LA Spec. Mud Buddy be a good Match Load - 2 men (400lbs), 1 70lb Lab and Normal Duck Hunting Stuff About what would the speed be- Could it cut a rut in the mud Hunt Areas with a 25 hp restriction |

That's a very small motor for the size boat you have and I'm guessing you will do between 15 and 18 mph with it, maybe. My boats almost identical in size to yours with a MB 5500 and it will run about 27 mph with the same load you are talking about so that should give you an idea what to expect with a 23hp. |

That excel is a very heavy boat and a 23 is not enough hp for that. If i was you and were limited to 25 and under i would get a 1544 gatortrax with the 23mb. I think you will be disappointed with a small motor on a big boat. Besides, with only 2 guys you shouldnt need a 1751 |

Keep in mind that the 17X51 Excel is not actually 51" wide as in the case of a hard chine boat...more like about 44" of actual plaining surface on the water...which means it takes even more HP to get it moving and on plain... With a 23HP boat you can go with any type chine...the more square the better...16X48 or 16X44 sounds about right...16X38 GT Rogue would also be a good choice... I had a 25HP MB surface drive and with two guys the 16X44 Alweld boat I was running did real well...any more than that and it was tough to get on plain... |

Go ahead camo it up and make it real pretty----but that ain't gonna stop Mr. Green Jeans from writing you a nice little ticket. You will stick out like a sore thumb running that mudmotor at Bayou Meto or any of the other hp restricted WMA's here in AR and you will be the 1st one checked and ticketed. Buy yourself a good 25 hp motor (outboard or sd) and play by the rules, or atleast don't be a dumbass and come on here and announce your gonna break the law. |
