I have a 1754 Grizzly Tracker with a 30hp Yamaha Jet. I would like to put on a Mudbuddy that can get the boat to 30mph with 4 guys and gear. Two questions.
1. What mudbuddy should I get and why?
2. Would flotation pods added to the back greatly help the performance?

I dont think its possible to get 4 people to that speed on a outboard hull, especially without a heavily modded motor.

What do you mean "what kind of mudbuddy"

the biggest one they make because you are going to need it to try and reach those speeds with that load.

pods and surface drives are not a good match in most cases

I am just tired of going 10mph with my Yamaha Jet. I want to cover some water. What engine do you recommend and how fast do you think it will propel 4 guys and gear in my 1754 Tracker?

You wont get max speed out of a tracker hull with a mudmotor but may beable to get it on step and run 20's with a modded motor. Look into the blackdeath series they are pushing.

Have you considered any other brands.. you can get the mods on any brand.

The biggest motor Mud Buddy makes is the 7000. It is a modded 45Mag with dual carbs and Iron Mountain Heads. On that hull you could expect to get mid to high 20's with a 4 man hunting load as long as the bottom of the hull isn't hooked up. Don't think there is a motor out there modded or not with a warranty that will get you 30 or over with that heavy load and that hull.

I just sold a grizz 1754 with a MB 4000 (35 w/mikuni and exhaust)....never could plane a 4 man hunting load. I could get 3 guys and 2 dogs up and run 20-22mph, add the 4th and it would plow, no matter where i distributed the load. Just ordered a brother breaux 1854 w/ 36pd and cant wait till he gets finished. Been there done that, take these guys word on getting a mud hull matched to the motor u wanna run!

you may not get the speed you are looking for, but a 35 hp sd will tear that 30 jet a new one. you will still be able togo where the jet took you and more.

when i put my boat together it was built to run the shalow rocky river where jets run. i have a 23 mini on a 14x48. i ran with a friend that has a simular 14x48 with a 40 jet. i could run him over empty and run with him with wieght in my boat.

you may not get the max out of a 35 sd with that boat but it will proforrm alot better than the jet. my bro in law has a griz 16x54 with a 35 hyper sport. no gps but it moves very well. ide say the extra foot of boat would only help.

My last boat was a 1644 GD with a MB 4000. I could run 25-26 with 3 adults, 2 kids & 2 coolers. The boat will make a big difference.

Shitcan the whole rig you have and buy the right hull/motor combo!! If you want to haul that kinda load at them speeds the best way is dual motors. You can get in the 30+ mph range with 5 or 6 guys without having to modify the motors and have roughly the same money as you would have in a heavily modified single motor!
