How does the pd perform in th setx marshes, like a gt or mb will when thers little or no water

We all get stuck, but the PD, IMO, doesn't perform as well as the other 3.

Ok, Mitch, he's asking about SETX mud, not in general. But to answer your question, I've only owned MB, but have run em all except for BT surface drives & MB long tails. I'm not knocking PD, simply stating that they don't normally shine in SETX. The longer outdrives on the rubber band motors really make a difference here. Now get your panties out of a wad. ;)

They will do fine in all but the worst mud. And not that they cant negotiate the thick mud but they do seem to have a harder time. And IMO it is due to the fact that they just don't have the reach once the azz end clears the surface in the thick mud. But everyone gets stuck except Delta..... You have to ask yourself, will you be in that type of mud often. Probably not unless you intentionanlly drive into it to play.

My next hull will have what I believe to be PDs answer to that problem though..............

He has already mentioned it before, I think it should work.

When will the project start?

Not planning on a new hull anytime soon. But my line of thought is to mount a long shaft motor on a hydraulic jackplate and then set it up on a short transom huntdeck. With the motor/jackplate maxed out at its highest point to run deep water, you could drop the whole motor down via jackplate to get down alot lower for that better bite in thick mud instead of blowing out. Cut that skeg back to allow better hard bottom trust. The trade off in stumps is the prop hits. My cut down BB skeg gets me better hard bottom performance IMO but more hits in the stumps. The large skeg keeps you from getting down low enough at times. There are trade offs and the PD runs fine in the areas I run. Like I said we don't have that mud here.

How about it being able to raise up further than intended hieght?
You could raise it an inch or two above normal in stumps.

I dont know that raising it on the JP would benefit anything because its already at the surface. But maybe,

 Here's an idea. Nartx, why don't ya come to the ride next month? I will personally make sure ya have a ride for the entire day, and also make sure ya get to run all 4 motors so ya can decide for yourself. PM me & I'll send ya my #, or ya can just show up @ Daley's Hunt N Fish & ask for me. If I aint there get with Keith. On the 26-27th, there will be everything there from longtails to airboats. You'll see everybody's strong points & weak points so ya can make ya own choice.

To me ther are only 2 choices in surface drives. Pro-Drive or Gatortail. You couldn't give me a MB and IMO a motor without nuetral is just DANGEROUS!!

That being said, run a PD and a GT and see which one will fit your needs for what you do 80% of the time and stick with it.
