Post subject:  Replace trim unit on GTR or not?

My 35 GTR's trim unit is leaking badly due to a scarred up cylinder. The motor is a late 08' model with only about 50 hours on it. My cylinder looks horrible and I honestly don't know why. It has definitely not been abused.

My concern is replacing it with a new $300 unit and it needing to be done again in a year or two. What would've caused this and what could be done to prevent it in the future? Are there any "upgrades" available?

Thanks,

Tony

My ram was scarred up bad too. My motor is only a year old. They switched from an aluminum ram to a stainless steel one. Rebuilt mine and no more problems. Maybe they could rebuild it cheeper than replacement. I dont know.
