I have to ask. Why is the pilot's seat on every airboat so high. It seems one could arrange the right steering linkage so that the seat could be much lower like in a normal boat. It so dangerous like this. Just sit your arse down low and be safe. Lower center of gravity and you won't get propelled out the seat in sudden stop while banking.

My buddy said he saw them do a test run and cross a ditch and got stuck trying to go up the bank. The operator had to get out and push.

ya.. i dunno they seemed like some pretty cool little boats, not for $14k or whatever he was askin for em. and the guy in back did have a lotta trouble pushin up that ditch. the operator mentioned somethin to me about it being hard to push an airboat across mud and thats why he was having trouble turning around, which is true.. but then he said "but ya really never need to get a boat across mud anyway" he obviously never runs round here. and i have seen mudflats in FL, lived there 16 years

That boat at pemnberton is the same hull that chuck sells it is made by a guy in florida his name is Marty but do not know his last name will try to find out. A mini 105 hull goes for about 1500-1800 depending what you want.

I wasn't there to see it but wish I would have been... my generac is far from stock and is on a heavier aluminum hull (.125 all over with 1/4"x2" T for the 5 runners) plus 1/4" poly under that.... rigging is also all stainless....

Marty,
Nice work on the re-drive and look forward to seeing it in person. Hope to meet ya one day if you care for a ride in the near future.

fishon!!! if you want to do a paper come talk to me as I live in Lake Charles and can give you a good bit of info on a mini airboat but being from FL you should know them well also. Boat is in TX right now but I got pictures if that is what you need.

I think Mark is one of the few that puts the driver down low in his Spider. I personally would not run an airboat without sitting somewhat higher. Sitting high gives you visibility and helps with reaction time.... trust me when you come around a corner and there is another boat its scary... sitting up high you can see the boat before you make the turn.... visibility in an airboat is the only brakes you have.... you have to judge distances for stopping, turning, etc....

Also sitting up high helps you see what is below the water in front and on the sides of the boat when the water is fairly clear.... great for bowfishing from the driver seat... also good for not hitting stuff under the surface.... my poly already has some scratches.

Just run a big block if you wanna dry ground lol. (BRLCLA) that Big block is nice ant it. No substatution for horsepower!!!

Post subject:  Re: sportsman show airboat

Too easy to make a big block car motor run dry but a small 2 or 4 banger on a 12 to 14' boat with 2 or 3 peeps now there is a challenge.

Post subject:  Re: sportsman show airboat

no replacement for displacement.... except maybe a little boost.... TBD!!!!!!

What size motor did you get Matt? GTR? Nevermind.... read your other post. Like I said come to Wallisville if your ride is ready....

Post subject:  Re: sportsman show airboat

The replacement is volumetric effiency!

Author:  brlcla [ Sun Mar 20, 2011 9:52 am ]
Post subject:  Re: sportsman show airboat

I said except for maybe a little boost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what did you think I meant

boost = volumetric efficiency......

a NA engine on average is about 75%

a boosted engine can be up to 200% efficient if ya think about it

so quit copying what I am meaning.... may not be saying but you still copying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also sent you some EFI pictures to your office email.

naw.. i need to find some pictures of the boat he built. im supposed to be writin a paper on a visit to an art galler, pick out one piece of art and write 1000 or so words on it.. i went to him after class and asked if we could do something on a construction type of art because we had just gone over greek art and the buildings. told him that i can write on a specific boat and [bullshit] about the different ways art is put intoi boat design..

so i used the sportsman show as my art gallery and i wanted to choose somethin a little different as my peice of art.
