Post subject:  v-belt?

Im building a surface drive and im using a 15 hp kohler. I was wondering if i can use a v belt because I cant seem to find any other kind of clutch. IK i can use a timing belt and that it wont slip. Do yall think a vbelt would slip that bad where it wouldnt work. And money is a big factor since im school. I need some ideas.

If you do, also have a good tensioning system and get as much belt to pulley contact as possible. May want to consider running 2 belts side by side on double pulleys. I would be more concerned with the clutch as the weekest link in the drive system. If you are thinking cetrifugal clutch, remember that you need the rpm to engage the clutch and they do not do well under load and slow rpms. Mud Buddy found this out pretty fast.

Yeah get wt you saying with tensioner. Im not using a centrifical im using a pto clutch off a lawnmower it an electric clutch. I think ima have problems with the gear ratio being its such a large pully on the clutch.
