Pro Drive on a flatback canoe
I have a 12' canoe with a 16" transom and want yalls opinions on some stuff.
1. Will I need to build it up to a tall transom to help with backwash?
2. Will a 27 or 36 be a better match for my hull?

Re: Pro Drive on a flatback canoe
1. I think your gonna need more than a little transom height to keep a 12 ft canoe from getting water in it. 2. If this is even a serious question you should be slapped

Just make sure you have someone video your maiden voyage. You could win the $10,000 on AFVs and buy a real boat...... PS: wear you life vest.

Tie on a long bow line with a float on it so we can use it as an anchor point if we ever get over that way.

Re: Pro Drive on a flatback canoe
I run a 7.0 hp longtail on a 17 foot square end canoe with a 42 inch bottom and trust me 7.0 hp is all it can handle safely. A canoe is a displacement hull and at 12 mph it gets squirrely.
But please video this event. For our entertainment and also for your insurance agent's deposition.

Re: Pro Drive on a flatback canoe
I did it a while back, except it was on a 10' canoe, and all i had was a 27, but needless to say.... WORKED GREAT! I think you should be fine... You may experience a little bit of backwash when coming to a stop. Just put a bilge in it

Re: Pro Drive on a flatback canoe
Well finally got the motor and mounted it up, on the way to the launch we hit a good pothole and the transom got a pretty good crack in it.
Gunna get some fiberglass patches and build the transom back thicker and I'll report back.
