Post subject: | Go-Devil Warranty |
I just got a phone call from a friend who is interested in buying a Gator Tail engine. His questions were warranty related and I was incredibly surprised to hear that Go-Devil DOES NOT warranty surface drive engines being used in a commercial environment. My question is this: With all the lunacy and rabid foolishness raged against Gator-Tail and Pro-Drive for their use and manufactering of an engine equipped with difficult and troublesome features such as reverse...power trim...and of course the foolish and un-necessary neutral/clutch; how can an engine that has been designed and built with such simplistic and "more basic" parts that are "much more reliable" leading to "way less maintenance" possibly be sold without a commercial use warranty? I guess this is why all of those "loyal" go-devilin' swamp people are beating the doors down in Loureaville. |

I sat at the berwick launch yesterday waiting on some crawfish for about a hour or so!! Didn't count but I would say around 75 or do boats came in loaded to the gill with crawfish!! Out of all the boats not a one was a gd!! I would say about half was Pd and the other was gtr's!! Most people don't even know about what these things are really used for in south la. |

Now, coco will give us a replacement while ours are down, but whatever expenses to motors is all us. And for yall that say how can they kmow there bein used commercially? Simple math my friend.. Aint no standard operator gonna put almost 400 hrs a month ! Lol. Plus wear & tear! Glad to be a Kool Kid that speaks da TROOF |

Why couldn't you just take the tach off or put another one on just for trips to the shop? |

Yup, I have to agree with Med. It sux sometime's to be so honest, but karma is a bitch. I remember when I was younger, we had a boat stolen. All pops really had to do was say the boat was at the house instead of his office and insurance would have taken care of it. He would not do it. Took a few years for that to really make sense to me, but I sure had a greater respect for my dad once I did mature enough to understand those type's of decisions. I've seen him on more than one occasion walk back in to a store to pay for something that didn't make it's way on to the reciept or bring change back that wasn't owed to him. Some people don't understand stuff like that, but I'm sure glad I had people like that around me to teach me how to be a man. |

Okay then. What if you did not opt to buy the tach as an additional accessory, which it is on a Go-Devil? |

I wasn't callin' you out kibb. Was just agreeing with Med's comment about not being truthful. I guess the whole thing come's down to whether you are using your GD for commercial activity or not. If you did not know it wasn't covered under GD warranty if used in that atmosphere, and nobody asked when you brougt it in, that's one thing. If you knew damn well when you bought it that it would not be covered because of your intended use and then intentionally tried to decieve them to get the work covered, well that would be another. |

No foul. I don't care because I don't commercial fish. I'm was just making a point that there are ways to circumvent their "no commercial use" policy. But honestly, if you didn't have a tach and it left you stranded overnight in the woods in 90 degree weather with mosquitos and no fire or deet, when you brought it to get fixed assuming it was under warranty and they said they would only fix it free if you don't commercial fish you would say you do fish commercially? |

I think I would be smart enough to look for a manufacture that would stand behind their warranty. If none was available, then I would look in to some type of insurance that would cover stuff like that. Or just factor it in to the cost of running a business. I can say I would have a hard time straight up lying about it if I were asked a direct question, and I would not likely try to figure out a way to decieve them if I knew going in that the motor was not covered. |

I'm saying straight-up pissed off, ate up, and looking like you have measles. And then, showing up unknowingly without warranty. There are a lot of upstanding people in our society, but circumstances can change them quick. |

Agreed. I'm perfect by no means, we all have flaws. Couldn't say what I would or wouldn't do unless put in the same spot, but I got (and luckily still get) to watch a great man do a lot of things that I didn't always understand and I'm thankful for that. I would like to say I lead my life in the same manner. |
