 Re: what surface drive?
normally it is just me (175lbs) about 2 dozen decoys and a dog (85lbs) but sometimes ill have a second person of about the same weight. the boat has a 40 hp max but i just wasnt sure if a 35 was too much on a 15ft boat

 Re: what surface drive?
The different makes and models will weigh from 220 to 300 lbs.
You might want to simulate that kind of weight with your outboard installed by adding batteries or other weight at the transom to see how she does.
Also suggest relocation of battery and fuel to extreme front of boat after you mount that new mud motor. Buy SO cable from an electrical supplier for the battery and fuel line from an auto parts house and run them outa sight in the sides or floor channels.

I posted my answer on the other site. For here, let me know if you want to check out a Gator-Tail. I'm in the Syracuse area. There's also a guy in Albany that's got a GD I think. Could probably get ahold of him on the fuge.

 Re: what surface drive?
so it sounds like i should get a 23 or 27 hp which was what i was thinking but i know some people saw to get the most horse power you can. i dont want to get a bigger boat bc i have to get under some tight bidges where the rail road crosses to get back where i would be using the mud motor. bc the river is tidal in the am it could be high tide and i can use a outboard which i do now but some of the good spots at low tide there is little to no water. thanks for all the help guys.
clutch i may take you up on that i am taking my dog out to buffalo to be trainned the end of july and will be picking him up early sept i will send you a pm on here or the other site thanks

 Re: what surface drive?
If you are concerned bout fittin under tght spots a bigger boat will just be wider and longer not neccessary taller. Also the prodrive doesn't sit as high as the horizontal driven motors.

 Re: what surface drive?
I would put a 35 h.p. on it and be done. That way if ever you do decide you want a bigger boat you will already have the motor. I would rather have enough motor than not enough.

 Re: what surface drive?
the bridge i go under is low and is narrow prob a channel about 4 feet wide with old wooded piers under the water to one side and rocks on the other so possibly a longer boat in the same width would be something to consider thanks

 Re: what surface drive?
" The Bandi is a stock 23 Vanguard with roller rockers, custom push rods, valve springs and custom high rpm gearing. This motor is mounted on the new Mini HD Sport with electric clutch. A 42 mm Mikuni carb kit option is available. " http://www.backwaterperformancesystems.comAnd I bet it costs more than any stock 35 or 36 MM out there....
