From Thursday through Sunday our crew ran approximately 130 miles. Yesterday required 75-80 miles of running to kill our birds. My longtail made every mile. I hate that MF'er after this last trip. Anyone want to trade their 35 GTR for my slow ass longtail? |

Up until this week we have had easy limits of greys and teal hunting a particular area of the marsh that is about 15 miles from the ramp. Unfortunately we haven't had any fresh birds to speak of and the 70 degree and calm winds made for a very unproductive hunt on Thursday afternoon. We also had some low tide issues (actually dry ponds) that gave us trouble. Friday morning we ran about 17 miles to hunt another area that previously produced easy hunt. After the morning hunt we scouted and ended up setting up at a hole 19 miles from the ramp. Total miles for friday was about 45. Saturday morning we hunted a pond about 20 miles from the ramp that consistently produced birds last year. We then had to run back to the ramp to work on my trailer and bring a partner back to camp for personel reasons. Saturday afternoon we ran back to the 19 mile hole. Therefore Saturday we ran approximately 78 miles. This morning we set up around 15 miles from the ramp and quickly picked up after we realized the birds were not going to cooperate and set up at a hole several more miles away. Today we ran about 36 miles. Thursday round trip approximately 30 miles Friday round trip approximately 45 miles Saturday round trip approximately 78 miles Sunday round trip approximatley 36 miles Shit. That's closer to 190 miles!!! Our group of hunting partners took off work to hunt so we hunted as hard as we could during morning and afternoon hunts with scouting mixed in. This trip was our vacation so we made the most of it. Several days away from the wife and kids doing what we wanted to do. Hunt duck birds. However the birds didn't really cooperate. We picked up 41 birds from 6 hunts, and had a great time regardless of mediocre success and all the effort. FYI - we had better success per hunt than the guides hunting the area and the local folks we talked to. Therefore our effort was worth it. We carried all gear/people in the outboard boat in order to lighten the load in the godevil. I ran 18-19 mph and can hunt our 19 mile ponds on a single 6 gal tank of fuel. We carried about 5 extra gallons of fuel just in case for each trip into the marsh. Saturday we fueled up at the camp after the morning hunt. |

Our camp is 13 miles up the river from the ramp, and we normally run atleast 10 miles from there to hunt. That is a TRIP when you have a 2-3 man hunt load in mines boat. |
