probably not hard at all but i think most require cutting a hole and drilling to mount them, no way id want to do that. I dont see the big fuss in them. whats wrong with your stock lights ?

no way Im cutting a hole in my boat, weakens the sides

Doesn't weaken the sides. I like them cause it gets them out of the way. I lay down when froggin alot and it's not poking me in the chest. And I have broke a few mounted to the top of the bow. I made a templet off the lights and used that to layout the cut pattern on the hull. Not hard to do at all.

i like em, like how they are out of the way and u just aint got to worry about them or see them. its what i plan on mounting on mine. do have a question, not that it matters. my bay boat has them and i never seen the back of them, do u just have to drill a hole for a bulb or u have to cut out the oval?

Post subject:  Re: shark eyes

No, there is an oval recess that has to be cut out.

I like em because they don't blind you nearly as bad as a deck mounted lights. I worry as much about seeing the other guy, and other stuff in my way, as him seeing me.

Just FYI, I got in a discussion with my builder, and finally just installed the lights myself, about split bow lights being legal. Near as I can tell, they are only legal if you have a center line mounted stern light. On bigger boats it is often a center line forward facing white light and then the stern can be off center.

Every shark light I have seen doesn't have the CG approval on them, so technically they are illegal. However, I've yet to have a problem with a minner marshal yet over them. Knock on wood.

I like um cause you don't rip of your bow light everytime I load my 4 wheeler to go to camp.

I said split bow lights not shark eyes. Shark eyes have some of their own problems with distance. When I get a chance I will find the Coast Guard info and link it. No matter what you do it's best to know the law.

I don't think half the ranking fish cops know the law much less the guys on the water. But that does not mean I don't do everything I can to keep them out of my business.

Well, maybe I am wrong. I know when I looked into it a while ago it was worded different. Guess it was longer ago than I thought.

Here is a link to Boat US description with pictures

http://www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/Revi ... info2c.htm

The Coast Guard site is short sweet and says as close to ceneterline as practical a few times about combination sidelights (red/green) bow light (white) stern light (white) and all arounds. The pictures at Boat US are old ones from the CG site, I think.

My new set of shark eyes said "Now Coast Guard Approved" or something to that nature on the front of the package.
