Post subject:  Pro Drive Tall Transom Conversion

I just recently purchased a 2006 Pro Drive 27hp. It has manual reverse and manual trim with 70 hours on it. I need to convert it to a tall transom to fit my boat. I have ordered the conversion kit from Pro Drive earlier this week. I am hoping to receive it before this weekend. Anyway, does anyone who has done this before have any tips?

Or any recommendations on other things to check out or do with the engine and lower unit taken off the frame? I probably will just use this engine to get me through the season so I wasn't interested in switching to hydro trim or auto reverse.

Thanks guys

I built a little deal out of a 2x12 to set the motor on. It's shaped like this crappy drawing I made in Paint. Keeps the crank from hitting the floor and provides a good solid base to leave the powerhead on for extended periods of time. You can leave the powerhead attached to the tiller assembly this way too.

The lower unit can just be set in a corner somewhere. I wouldn't lay it on it's side because gear oil may spill from the top.

It's pretty simple though, 4 bolts and the tiller assembly comes off, then remove the bolts that hold the LU in, and drop it out. Knock out the teflon bushing, clean it up well, and find you a big ass tig welder. The guy who did mine, preheated the material with a torch before he put the bead down. It's some thick ass material.

Thanks CB, can you add detail on how the powerhead and tiller assembly attaches to that stand? Im sure it would make sense once I had the disassemble done but not sure right now.

Thanks

Just set it on top. Its not really a stand per say. Just something to give you clearance for the crank/clutch and a place to store the motor if the job isn't going to be quick enough to leave it suspended by whatever you used to lift it off. You may have to pop off the spline adapter, can't remember.
Looking at the pic, set the crank in the boxed off.portion at the bottom with the tiller handle going towards the top.

CB, that picture has a decent shot of being a brand for a cattle ranch (Bar H), but absolutely no shot at being an engine stand diagram, lol

Alright, here is a crappy makeshift scaled down version I threw together with some scraps at work. Again, it is not really a stand, more like a base. Its just something to set the powerhead on so you don't damage the crank while working on the frame. Hopefully this clarifies for those having trouble with the microsoft paint cad drawing.

We ran out of wheels! Waiting on the boss to order some more.

It only took about 15 seconds to build that, take a pic, and post it though. Actually it took a minute to post, tapatalk was being a bitch and kept giving me an error message. It's disassembled and back in the scrap pile now.

Just putting things in simple terms. He seems to be really struggling to follow the conversation.
