have abut 16 hours on my new motor and and so far i love it and wish i would of went prodrive the first time around. but anyways, the ratchet reverse seems to be a little weak? i have to tighten up the tension knob to take it from foward to reverse. once i tighten it up, it ratchets fine. once i wanna put the lower unit back in the foward position it doesnt seem to have enough tension on the lower unit so it doesnt spin. i then have to reach back grab the lower unit and then ratchet the motor til it spins the lower unit back into the foward position.

Is this in deep water. It works better when the Lu is in the mud and has some resistance.

i'm not an expert, just what I heard.

i wouldnt say deep but it does happen in shallow water like whenever im pullin off of the trailer or backin off the bank.

If it is over a foot and a half it's deep

well lets just say open water. no pressure on the lower unit like grass, mud ect.

If the lower unit is not in the mud it's deep water

That's prolly just the way it is. That's why the reverse is only good when you're stuck. Its not practical for slowing down or stopping. Just my opnion so don't grill me on it. Other than that it's a good motor.

i dont need instant. i drove a mud buddy and i know when i need to slow down round docks and what not. just seen videos where poeple have their boat on the trailer and are able to spit the lower unit all the way around with no problem

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive reverse

if i only had instant reverse id prob still be stuck on the river right now. if you need instant reverse on a tiller motor i feel you dont know how to drive a boat very well. i could see needing instant on a cc style boat. but i didnt start this thread to have pd vs gtr war. i drove both before i bought. pd out performed the gtr in so many ways so thats what i have. but thanks for yalls input so far!

Hey man, basically it requires resistance. That's why the tension knob is there, in "open" water, there's not as much as there would be in vegetation or anywhere the skeg is touching something. Try working it faster and using the water as resistance if the tension knob is not enough. Past that, you'll just have to figure it out.

Plus we mainly worry about riding than filming. Its always MB, PD, and GD riding. We know what each brand does here.
