Post recs on motor with reverse
Alright, I'm pretty new to the mud motor stuff, but I am looking at getting a boat and a motor in the next year. I'll be using it mostly for duck hunting and fishing the flats and rivers near Enchofina and the Aucilla rivers. I would prefer to have a motor with a reverse. What are your thoughts? Recommendations? Thank you in advance.

Well, if you want reverse that narrows your search to the best 2 mudmotors. Gator Tail and pro-drive. One has instant reverse while the other takes a couple seconds to ratchet around. Go to each of their websites and look at the videos. Then go for a test drive. Good luck.

that's probably a driver error thing... let it idle in deep water, and don't give it any gas or you might take on a little water. I like my PD/FPR, and wouldn't trade it for anything. Gatortail makes a nice motor, and if you never get yourself in a bind, that instant reverse works pretty good too.

Idle in open water with FPR.
Running WFO in open water with FPR is fine, its when you let off the throttle that you get a boat full of water.

Thank you for the input guys. I figured both were great motors and both would work just fine for I want it for. I have seen some great deals on here and will continue to look as time goes on and I get closer to making my purchase.

I got the GTR and When Im hard on reverse i get water/mud in my boat too. Best best for the OP is to go test drive and demo each motor and see what he likes!

I"ve run FPR wide open throttle every where, deep or shallow and I have the short shaft motor. Definitally operator error ( No offense schrieverboy) I did the same thing when I first got mine (live and learn). You just have to trim the motor all the way up to start off when in reverse and in the deep stuff, you trim down as you increase on the throttle and pick up speed.
and the opposite when your slowing down, meaning trim back up when your slowing down. turning the boat 90 degrees before stopping also helps with the back splash. if possible. ;) I've personally have had more problems in the shallows (1 to 2 feet) with the boat wanting to catching suction to the bottom when I slow down and not wanting to pop back up!

This is running FPR in 12 foot of water, 15.7 mph. LOL
