Post Motor Placement Question
Ran my 16x56 godevil hull w/ MB 29 HD Sport. Ran good 22/24 w 2 men.
Problem was the boat is a short transom, the motor a tall transom model. When I take off or slowdown, water (or mud) gets thrown back into boat from the drive. I shimmed it up about an inch when I mounted it,but it looks like it needs to come up some more. Should the bottom of the drive be higher than the bottom of the boat? Has anyone tried using a jack plate with a surface drive? That would deffinately give me the lift I need. I've just never seen it done with a mud motor, only outboards.

Do you plan on keeping that boat for a while? If so, just have a welder build up your transom to the proper height. Any good aluminum welder will make easy work out of that and you will probably spend a whole lot less doing it that way instead of trying to make something like a jackplate work. If you are close to GoDevil they will probably do it for a price and you can bet your bottom dollar it will be done right. You may have to wait a little while if you have GD do it but a wait is worth having something done right.

Yes, drive should be "higher than the boat". For the price of a jack plate, you could probably get the transom built up 3 or 4". I messed around with a high dollar jack plate and MM, wasted more time than most folks would on it, might function but prolly wouldn't last.

Warren (Coco) actually lives across the street from my in-laws and about 8 mi from here/home. I think I'll bring it by the shop and let them look at. I do plan on keeping the boat for a while. Other than the transom height, the boat performed great. I didn't know what a difference a good hull makes. I actually stopped and restarted and planned the boat on a mud flat, with no water, just soft soupy mud. I agree, I think the best bet will be to raise the transom height properly, and since the go-devil shop is just down the road, they'll know how to brace it right. Thanks for the imput.
