Post Accepting New Mud Motor Technology
We have all read the never ending criticism of Mud Muddy on the failure to deliver the new Sport V and H products as anticipated.
Let's look at another angle .

Gator Tail and ProDrive have made commendable efforts to deliver a reliable working reverse system to the mud motor community. This has been a success.

The USA manufacturing mind set has always been to invent and improve. What MB is doing is not rocket science, but it is innovative.
Innovation and competition will result in a better system.
This thing will be perfected , and future mud motors will be fully geared systems just like outboards have been .

I believe that GT, PD and maybe others will come up with variations and improvements to assure company survival and their share of the market.

I would not be surprised if a major outfit like Mercury jumps in the ring and goes all in it since they are already partially involved with MB.
That will depend on what they see as opportunity for $$$$$$.

So what do you think will make it better than what's out their now. If you bust the Lower unit casting what would it cost to fix it. I know a outboard isn't cheap to fix. What about all those questions?

As an owner of the most dependable brand of mud motor, I commend your effort to bring the troops together.

Unfortunately, the Cool Aid has already done it's damage, and all hopes are lost.

Expect a barrage of posts from guys with GTR's in their profile pic or signature.

Have they came up with a simple fix for the motor breaking and falling off the trailer?

Not sure about the gears yet, but i do like the handle, ie location of the two trim switches, kill switch, gear lever, and the float/fixed design.

Let me preface what I'm about to say with....I just ordered a GTB and 35GTR....now

I think MB is trying hard to develop something new. Just b/c other companies have had something similar and better for years do not mean its not new to MB. Each company has to grow and it takes some longer than others but without this growth and development, they grow stale.

While most people will agree that the sport V and H are not going to revolutionize the MM industry, I would argue that it might just revolutionize MB.

i agree that competetion benefits us a lot

Lots of people on here have bad relations with mudbuddy's front man due mainly from customer service, and his word on things not holding much face value.

I dont see the future being gear driven simply from what Nasty has pointed out and the extra weight.

Three things that will improve MM's for the future
Newer Engines
Props
CVT style transmission

I doubt very much that Mercury is concerned about a select market of Mud Motor Enthusiast when they make millions on outboard sales, parts & accessories each year.

gator tail started offering reverse in what 05 or 06 i think, so you mean to tell me it took the most inovative company in all of mudmotors 7 or 8 years to figure out a way to convince a nother company (Mercury) to do all of the research and development and manufacture the lower units that MB mounts a Briggs motor to and paints. Those guys are the shiz

ummmmm....all these innovations are the same....motor and prop......come up with a new drive system, pd already did the gear system and mb improved on it, ill give them that....and copied the gatortail belt drive system....whats new? The new big thing is efi put out by gatortail and the biggest improvements to come on mud motors will be the motor itself not the drive system.......quit reinventing the wheel and improve it.

Stu is more innovative than mudd buddy. The man is making an efi 35. The first we've heard of doing it and he's in a small shoppin his backyard in Alaska. THAT is innovative.

None of the MM companies are producing motors, just frames. Changing motors is basically just drilling new bolt holes.

Ok i caint take it anymore, ive been working with **, and *****, and **** and we are currently testing this setup. Yes its a hopped up motor but you need the torque for the mud. I cannot say the test results just yet, but just wait...... :)

Post Re: Accepting New Mud Motor Technology
I'm new to the MM world but having witnessed the development of bay boats and technical poling flats skiff "revolutions," I can tell you that it's usually the "evil empire" with lots of money (Maverick/Hewes/Pathfinder) who has the capital to fund R&D that changes the game. They have to be able to withstand failures and developing 10 ideas that don't pan out for every one that reagains that lost capital.

I'll be buying a GTR25 before fall and I've read all about MB's horrible customer service. But being pretty objective and an outsider to the whole thing, it looks like they are the only ones actively pursuing something new. With the right resources, they'll overcome failures and they have way too much of a stake in it to not get it right.

I've seen it with Mercury's Optimax 2-stokes, which were time bombs early on and now incredibly dependable motors. When everyone said that the Mercury Verado would fail because a supercharger can't last in a saltwater environment, they pressed on and the Verado is also a very reliable 4-stroke platform.

And those new Neptune gearcases made to withstand the torque of a Verado 350hp SCI? That's the kind of technology that is going to benefit all of us in this relatively-virgin realm of mudmotors.

Tell me it's unfathomable to you that Merc is the first manufacturer to come out with a surface drive, and then Evinrude and Yamaha follow? Nobody will even remember Gator Tail and Pro-Drive in ten years if that happens---unless they team with Evinrude and Yamaha.

how will the new sports handle this/that? I heard this/that. they still wont compare to GT and PD.

can we stop talking about em until they actually come out. and we have info first hand.

talk about a repetitive topic

I can tell you that counter-rotating props are slower but virtually eliminate torque steer. They're also absolutely ridiculous for holeshot, but also stupid expensive to replace.

I would hesitate to use one in conditions in which I was likely to have a prop strike or in any conditions in which routine replacement of a prop was part of the game. They're twice as much. . .

What about just welding 2 small props together and getting them balanced?

The trp would be cool, I got a 21 tran cat with a 150 vmax, my buddy has the same boat and motor with a trp. It's crazy the amount of hole shot he has compared to my single prop. It's like putting 4 wheel drive on a boat.

All I want is a 80-100 hp efi Honda motor on a GTR on my CC. I want to run in the high 40's. how about a water cooled model so we can put an engine cover on it to clean up the lines.
