I'll defer to you guys on all things mudmotor. That said, I fish throughout the summer and fall in the Everglades here in South Florida and the heat is incredible. We've used almost all the coolers, including Engel, Yeti, Icey-Tek, Coleman Extreme, and Igloo Marine. A few things to consider, based on what we've learned: 1) All of these coolers rely on insulation. Engels and Yetis have the most. That can be good, or bad. Either one of them will melt a lot of ice in a hurry if you ice down a cooler that's been sitting outside on your porch in August. THe better the cooler, the better it holds cold AND hot---so bring your cooler inside the night before, and toss a few frozen 2 Liter bottles of water in them before you ice down your drinks. 2) The cheapest Coleman or Igloo will hold ice better than the best Yeti or Engel if you leave it shut. Consider having two smaller coolers, one to be accessed a lot, and another just to hold ice. 3) The cube-shaped Yetis (50 and 105) hold ice better than the longer ones. Engels are better than Yetis, unless you get a cube-shaped Yeti. I have a 50 and a 105 and all my buddies with Yetis b*itch that my coolers hold ice better than theirs. 4) We do a lot of 3-4 day houseboat trips in the Glades and use them as a basecamp on the water for our flats boats. Based on what I've seen, Uunless you're spending more than 3-4 days on the water without replenishing ice, the Igloo or Coleman works just fine. The only advantages are that they are more durable, and that we can use them to double as a casting platform to justify the price. (A tall Yeti is still cheaper than an Igloo and a casting platform, and takes up less space than both.) The Colemans and Igloos hold ice just fine. 5) No matter which one you get, put your drinks in the refrigerator the night before. It makes a huge difference. |

Sounds like igloo and Coleman have the right thing going on, quantity vs super high quality wins in this bracket, unless your gonna be away from civilization (or have bears) for over 5 days no point in those big expensive coolers |

In my case we stand on them all night the cheaper ones wouldn't last long. |

The thing about cooling the ice chest before use goes a long way when it comes to making ice last |

Coleman Extremes for me, never could justify the cost of a Yeti or any other high cost cooler. Tear up 3 and still be ahead... |

After bowfishing for a season with my k2 and knowing how many fish went trough it I would have to disagree will. I use to say the same thing. Put a 150 igloo in a boat and jump around on it all night see how long it will last. Safety factor is a big deal also they are just tipsy when stood on |

Post subject: | Re: Ice Chest Comparison |
go get a K2 at southern waterfowl supply will. Im sure you got some pull there. My 75qt K2 is kinda bad and very satisfied, for being over $170 cheaper than a yeti you cant beat it, cool it down fill it with ice, itll have ice for over a week, i know i had to do it. Just as tough as a yeti, maybe not grizzly proof but grizzlies hard to come by in FL. |

Wife got me an Igloo tundra last fall. Haven't used it much but it held ice for over a week during duck season. It bS some really nice features. Also not as expensive as the yeti. Its just like anything else we buy...what works for me may not work for you in your application. |

If you put any of these coolers in a walk in freezer for a day or 2, they will hold ice for a long ass time.....the secret with any cooler is to make sure the insulation and air are cold before using. |

i know when i use crushed ice in my yeti 20 it last a lot longer than crushed ice in my coleman 28 i like the yeti b/c it is tough.... i dropped a deer hindquater into a brand new coleman and it punched a hole in it... wont do that with a yeti |

Kinda going off of what Jeffery said.... We always keep our plugs pulled for as long as we can. This allows water to drain that would melt other ice if allowed to stay in. |
