I would like to know which motor can take off best in a sand bottom prorive or Gator Tail |

I don't think you can get the PD as low for a bite in a hard bottom without digging a hole because of the large skeg. But at the same time that large skeg provides more prop protection IMO and alot less prop hits on junk. Any way you cut it, if you gonna decide on a motor based on holeshot in sand you better be ready to replace your prop every few months cause sand will eat them up no matter the motor. |

I have hard, shallow sand bottom in my marsh, especially since Rita and Ike. The best I've seen getting up is the MB 35 Mini with it's 32 out drive. The longer reach seems to make a big difference in this type of bottom. But, as stated before, if you're gonna get up in this stuff instead of poling to more water, be ready to go thru some props! |

That is why some of us love the ole longtail... Only lost 1/4" of prop all season long - and tossed my share of oyster shells and sand too... |

Thanks for the replies I realize that sand destroys props I am running a tunnel boat right now and go through one a season. But in the area I hunt hole shot means alot because usually if you cant get on step you cannot go in reverse. |

Prop makes all the difference when trying to get up on a hard shallow bottom. Took me 4 props to finally get one that will get the boat up in a little over ankle deep with out submerging the prop. A 3 or 4 blade would work even better. Trying to get me a 4 blade built now. If you notice, the outboards on tunnel boats that shoot up on plane in the shallows use 4 blades with power to turn them quick and blow themselves out of the hole. I have done this with a two blade and am still tweaking on the three to do the same. |

I run a PD in a lot of sand and don't have much of a problem with it, but the guys I know who have run both seem to prefer the GT. |
