 Looking to getting a Mud motor I have a 1436 Monarc jon boat and will be using it for trapping. I live in northern WI so we have more rocks than mud. I would like to use it on the river where a outboard won't work because of water depth. What do you guys all think would be good motor size to move a person, gas, and about 100 pounds of traps at a decent speed?

Re: Looking to getting a Mud motor my friend has a 1442 with a 23 hp long tail for trapping, the long tails are nice because you can use them as an ancore when you pull up to a house, i would recomend a 16 hp long tail.

Re: Looking to getting a Mud motor Dont go any smaller than a 16-18 your not saveing no weight on the motor. you'll want the extra power.

Re: Looking to getting a Mud motor Be careful buying someones homemade longtail. Get a name brand. if your set on a cheap one try to test it on your boat before ya buy it. I've seen some really bad ones.
