Post subject:  Light Question

Bought my GTB with the swamplight kit installed and wired into the boat from GT. Consisted of 2 - 12 volt round driving lights. Similar to tractor lights. Didn't like them, so I made me a handheld spotlight with the aircraft landing light same as the hardhat light I run in the back. My buddies and me were frogging Fri night and after about 4 mins, the fuse blew in the switch panel to the light up front. What gives?? Used to have 2 lights on that same circuit, now only one. Why did the fuse blow?? Didn't fork with it after that, used another light we had in the boat. Just wondering why the fuse blew :?: :?:

There is only a couple of things that can go wrong. Either you have to much your trying to run off of that one fuse ,or your hot wire is touching something. In your case its probley the hot wire grounding out on something. Any spots that are taped I would in tape them and check for corrison.

Used spade connectors on each wire, shrink tube on each wire/connection, then electrical tape. Don't see how anything could be grounding out. Will pull the tape tonite and double check just to be sure. Other than that, might try a heavier gauge wire to the front.

Your wire may be too small to handle the "Draw" of the lights? I just run my HH light using an extension cord with a twist lock plug.

How many amps does the new light draw vs the original ones? If the light kit was 2 x 55W bulbs (most common) that is only drawing 9.1A of current. If your aircraft light is drawing more than 10A and/or the wire is too small for the current draw(due to a longer run) that may be your problem. Note- a standard 12V accessory plug is intended to run below 10A.

Gonna check it all out tonite. Maybe too many amps, maybe a bad fuse, maybe something touching. Going back to the drawing board.
