I thought I'd share some pics of the modifications I had done to my trailer. My neighborhood has an hoa, so I have to keep my boat in the garage, or pay for storage. McLain trailer can only install a swing away tounge on a square framed tounge, and they said they would not do any work to the tounge becase it was rectangular. I found a retired guy that does welding, he built me a removable tounge for $180. He used 3/8 alluminum plate to build a box, and welded it to the tounge. 2 1/2 bolts back up incase the welds fail, and 2 5/8 pins connect everything together. Ran my wires underneath with a conntection in the middle. I've probably pulled it 1000 miles since its been done, with no problems. It's not the prettiest thing, but it works for me. |

Nice solution. I feel your pain with the HOA, me too. I have to unbolt the tiller on my LT, and had to put a Fulton swing on it and I have 2.5 inches to spare... And maneuver the boat around an antique upright piano... (Anyone want a piano?? Free to anyone who picks it up.) |

Well that's an 18 ft boat, on a trailer built for a 20ft boat. I have to push it in by hand to get the angle right. I have 6"-12" to spare on either side depending how it goes in. |

Md. Might be cheaper to get one down there with the distance. But you are more than welcome to come up to get it. ![]() |

I put a Fulton Swing a Way on mine. Do they not make one for your size? The wires don't have that extra connector as well. |

I never did any shopping for anything, called McLain and then this guy. My tongue is 3x5 I think, or something like that. |

How do ya'll like those Fulton Swing away brackets? Did you notice any loss of strength in the trailer tongue? |

They're rated for 3500 pounds, stronger than the aluminum. I had one on my other rig, never had any problems. |
