 Un Locking Loctite..
I got a PM about this and figured I'd share it since a lot of people use Loctite or equivalent.
Red loctite (271 is commonly used) is permanent. It is not designed to come loose. However, if you need to get it loose here's how it's done.
Loctite 271 is rated to 300°f and it takes about 100°f more to cause it to fail. Using my calculator that's 400°f.
One guy holds the torch and gets the appratus to 400°f while the other guy works the wrench. Do not use your wife's oven mitts, she will get pissed. Keep the heat on the spot. Don't let it cool.
The initial "snap" or loosening will occur at about 230-250 in/lbs and you will think you are home free. You aren't. Keeping the heat on, you will think you are cross threading the fastener. You're not. It will take about 350 in/lbs to get past where the Loctite is. That's how it is designed. It's supposed to have a higher fail point than the initial fail point.
Anyway...if you got it stuck get the torch and keep it on there.
