going to be buying my replacement motor probably a month from now, or whenever brother finishes my boat..... I would like for anyone that has had any problem with hydro trim on the pro-drives to post up and list the problem, even if minor, and the remedy it took to fix it. i had the winch trim on my last pro-drive with little to no problems and would like to have it on my new one but its not offered anymore. i'm not opposed the manual wheel, but i would like to get a idea on what going wrong with these hydro units when they fail. thanks |

First of all there has not been a rash of failures with the hydro trim tha I'm aware of. But that doesn't mean it won't go out. Other than some getting water in the housing I haven't heard of much going on. I have one of the original units and I think it is different than the unit offered now. I had a wire break on mine, wires were a little to short when installed. PD re-wired it and add some length to it. The wires move when turning the motor so there has to be enough slack to compensate so they don't get fatigued. I would never be with out the power trim, I use it way to much. After running with a buddy that HAD the wheel, it wore me out just watching him work it. |

i worded my self wrong....didnt mean for it to sound like there have been countless failures...just wondering if there is a something that happens to em' that might be common, like the wiring you are talking about. just tryin to educate my self on it. |

Not sure why some of the newer units may be holding water. If I had secured the wires different on mine I probably wouldn't had had a wire break. It wasn't obvious at the time that it was pulling on the wires in a bad way. I believe these are Merc trims. Anyway it is a strong unit and very dependable from what I have seen so I would be worried about it. The winch trims seemed to have had more issues over time. |

My first PD 36 came with hydro tilt designed to go inside a bass boat(sump area-under floor), the resevoir was a large white plastic bottle type thing, and with getting bumped around as most things do in a duck boat, it loosened up,lost seal, and when it rained water would get in and contaminate. PD replaced it with the new version,resevoir is alot like a oil filter (metal). My new PD came with the new Hydro tilt. No problems! I have heard they have started using different type hose, but I have had no problems, so far. Nock on wood. |

I personally have not had an issue myself (and I have swamped my boat twice, the trim pump was submerged for at least 20 mins each time). But being the local fix it guy I have helped out a couple of guys down this way with there trim units issues. 1 w/ a busted hydraulic hose. (old style) 2 w/ condensation build up/ moisture in motor housing. ( some people get it, some don't ?) both problems are simple fixes. I personally didn't care for the winch setup myself, but to each there own. if you like the winch setup go for it Myboy! I'm sure there a few guys on here that upgraded to the Hyd trim and the winch is just taking up space in the corner or their garage! Good luck Man! |

i upgraded from winch to hydro i had the winch... put it in my truck to bring it to the camp and set up there,, threw a cigarete out my truck and it landed in my bed and caught on fire.. damn the bad luck |

phuck yall. aparently some gas splashed around in the bed and on the box hte winch was in.. talk bout a weird feelin,.. look behnd u and your whole bed is on fire!!!! thank goodness i keep a fire extinguisher in my toolbox!!! |

Jus10 ,thank you. I just showed your thread to my son(Quackhead) One more reason not to smoke. It kinda reminds me of when I was a kid in Highschool, took a girl "parkin" on the levy in my `73 Mach ! mustang. Levy that not mowed, don`t go good with red hot catyletic converter, I was runnin from a trail of fire 100 yards long.  Fire never looks good in the rear view mirror, when its chasing you.

Had both hoses split....They were the old style.Pro-Drive no longer uses them. |

Had pump motor failure....as B-Boy (and thank you again bro) said it was from condensation/gunk under the motor housing. Unbolted pump/motor from bracket....unscrew the 4 retaining screws, remove cap. Clean contacts/motor w/ Corrosion X or similar...blow out w/ compressed air, however you clean it is up to you. Re-assemble and rock and roll- |
