When clutch is engaged, unit makes a thump/knock like noise but does not propel.

Any ideas?

Where us the notice coming from? I broke one of the bands on an old clutch and it threw the disc off center and was hitting the brake plate.

I couldn't tell as I didn't get close enough. It's pretty loud though.

He called H&H and was told "It's probably the spline shaft."

I'm towing him in now.

Yeah, the splines can round off on the upper shaft and/or the connector mounted to the clutch...

Yea either the clutch is shot or the splines stripped somehow

Splined coupler. If you can turn the prop and feel clean resistance of the gears ad the clutch is spinning its the coupler. They are made to fail before the gears
