 Drove my first Surface drive the other day..... and hated it. Really do not understand all the hype. I am used to longtails and yes the surface drive was a little faster, a little easier turning, and yes it did have that highly coveted reverse, but it was junk IMO. Ill stick to my longtail any day. Before everyone goes throwing out the "my brand is better than that brand" its not the brand that made the difference it was the design that killed me on the SD. I am not a fan of having to set trim just right, and we got stuck on a couple beaverdams and log jams because we couldnt get enough speed built up due to the size of the trail. My longtail goes right over it since the prop can keep pushing it in the water while im on the jam or dam. Also my longtail gets through mud a lot better than that one did. I am sure it has some to do with boat size and load, but I can dig in alot better and get more leverage out of mine. I don't even run a true mud hull on my boat and he ran a prodrive with a phowler mud hull on it. Its going to take a lot more before I get sold on one. Just my .02. I know everyone has their preference, but until I can convinced otherwise the LT has my vote anyday.

Re: Drove my first Surface drive the other day..... More than likely u need some tiller time. A SD isn't like a regular motor it takes a lil while to figure out all the things that's make them run in those conditions.

Sounds like someone doesn't know what they're doing, kinda like all of us when we first started out. Buy one learn to run it and you will never consider a long tail again. I honestly don't think a longtail can get anywhere that I can't get to in my rig. Just my .2 cent
