 Popping the clutch
Followed an airboat trail in thick saw grass for about 200 yards in 10' of water. Then decided it was not a good idea.
Got stuck to hell. The only way out was revving my 35 GTR and popping the clutch. Did it over a dozen times until I got out.
Motor ran great and clutch is working perfect. Do I need to inspect anything after that type of abuse ?
Thanks.

 Re: Popping the clutch
I do it every once in a while but only run it to about 2000 - 2500 rpm. I'm sure it would tear something up but don't know how long it would take.

 Re: Popping the clutch
I've smoked my clutch before from dumping it repeatedly. Made a pile of smoke but didn't have any long term problems from it.

 Re: Popping the clutch
Did you try lifting prop out of water, shifting into gear and then reving and lowering into water?

 Re: Popping the clutch
PS - If anyone really wants to know what places stress and duress on a motor and what makes shit break; ask a crawfisherman that runs traps in the swamp and woods. Not ponds or lakes or rice fields. Log filled, low water sloppy spillway ass swamp.
They will have some things to say.
Also while on the subject of clutches....I don't know about the gatortails, but the prodrive clutches do sometimes give warnings sign that they are on their deathbed. I learned the hard way myself about a month ago. My clutch had a clicking and winding springy noise in it and mistook it for something else. Not long after that it went out. Also, burn smell is a give away, and if your shot is o n fire, well its too late.
gator tail guys can tell you what the signs of a clutch about to go out are

 Re: Popping the clutch
they told me when I bought my hustler zero turn, to engage the clutch barely over idle , to prevent clutch failure. I seen my brother in law sheer the clutch hub straight off his zt. can't see it being any better on a mm. even though I have done it , but not over 3k
