Hey guys I got a 14-42 Alumacraft rivited Jon with a 12 hp copperhead. I'm thinking about up grading hp. Would a 23 dixie work as far as weight and what not. According to Dixie's and copperhead's website, the dixie only ways 20 pounds more which I find hard to believe. Also are these motors durable at all? New ownership makes me think bad things. |

I had a 23 Dixie on a 1442 Almacraft. I braced the transom and added small trim tabs.(bent Stainless 8"x10") My setup was awesome. I really liked my Dixie. I had the latest generation. manual and no clutch. very easy to work on . Great starter motor. I would not recommend anything over 23 on a Dixie. Make sure you balance your prop. You may also want to consider the big 3 as an alternative. Not sure if Mike got the bugs worked out yet. Best of luck ! |

Welcome to the forum, below you will find a link explaining one of many terrible experiences with dixie. Stick with copperhead, i've heard one bad review of a copperhead ever. Some have had a couple belt issues, but for the most part they are extremely reliable, and simple in design. Don't take my word for it though, Google search "Mudmotortalk dixie mud motors" and see for yourself. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41548 |

I appreciate the insight. My buddy has 2012 and has had all kind of problems but that it only one person's experience. That price tag is so nice though it's clouding my thoughts |

Definitely stay away from Dixie. The new owner is as bad as the old. WTF is in the drinking water down there? |

Haven't had any problems with my 23, but if you look on you will see that everybody has issues no matter who built it. |

I'm running a 1442 NCS alumacraft with a 25 hp Orion. Guessing it weighs about 175 or so and it works great. I'm running 24 mph by myself and high teens with two people and hunt load. |
