Pro- Drive or Gator Tail for my situation?
Trying to figure out what motor would better suite my area. I live in South Texas on the Coast. I will be using this motor both on the saltwater flats that have hard sand and muddy bottoms, as well as two lakes that have hard sand, alot of stumps (submerged and visible), some mud, and some vegetation. If i went with a Pro Drive should i get the power trim or just go manuel and should i get the manula reverse or not? i would not get the reverse on the Gator Tail.
I am stuck between a Gator Tail and a Pro Drive. I am wanting to stick the motor on a 14'x48" Low Jon Boat. Would there work until i could afford a new boat? If so could I run a 35 or would i have to go to the 27?
What is the difference between Pro Drives 27 and Gator Tails 23? Speed difference?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would start by getting another boat.
if money is an issue, then buy the boat and run your OB on it until you can afford the MM.
Boat makes the package.

GATOR-TAIL
I drive mine all over West Bay, East Bay, Trinity river, rock port get a Gator-Tail for our area... Nothing against Pro-Drive they are both great motors and both do a lot of the same but for our area I think I can dig down deeper than a pro-drive plus I like the immediate reverse feature.
And yes I can back up in this thick Texas mud...
Prodrive can do the same thing but I think there is an edge when we dig down deeper with the Gator-Tails... Again these aren't sand motors... My 30HP outboard wouldn't go where I take my Gator-Tail
I'd test drive both feel free to come ride with a few of us... I'd be glad to let you try out running my rig.

Whichever way you go, go ahead and get reverse for sure, whether manual or hydro. Its well worth the money and you wont regret it. Power trim is well worth it too.

after reading that last post and some of the others that have been posted over the last few weeks, I think the easiest way to determine need will be for you to take an IQ test. Seems that most if not all the GT homers are borderline retarded so you may or may not be to smart to own a GT and therefore will be forced to purchase a PD.

Re: Pro- Drive or Gator Tail for my situation?
If you want manual tilt and trim and no reverse why not get a godevil. From what I've seen in Baffin bay I think that the longer shaft and three blade prop help in the shallow sand

Re: Pro- Drive or Gator Tail for my situation?
Pulling into the dock... Instant reverse feature... I'm not saying the reverse is better... There's a huge advantage of having full power reverse pretty cool feature. But I can back up just fine and go forward and get back on plane in the mud in the conditions I hunt I don't need FPR... We don't have Louisiana mud here in Texas... GT does just fine and I can dig deeper. I think even deeper than a PD removing the bar etc... (not trying to start sh!t )

Re: Pro- Drive or Gator Tail for my situation?
There's a bar that sits on the lower hole on the transom mount. It prevents the motor from going past a certain point you can adjust which hole the bar or pin is in... Most have it set on middle or bottom you can actually remove it. TXSHOCKWAVE has done this and was able to get out. I personally have never removed it or needed to.
