Post subject: | ProDrive engine questions |
Hi all. I've been lurking here for quite a while and love the site. There is lots of useful information here (if you can read through the bs lol) I have some questions that I hope you can answer. I've been reading a lot about the new efi kits and like the sound of the results but was disappointed to hear that they are not covered under Briggs warranty. I made a few phone calls and was informed that not only are the efi kits not warranted by Briggs, but neither is any engine that has an efi installed. What do people then do for warranty work? What happens if say an exhaust breaks on a new engine. Will I have to pay out of pocket for a new one? Thanks in advance. |

My take on it is the same as if they installed modifications to the engines and offered warranty on them. The kits are not warranted by "briggs" but sounds like they are warrantied by PD. PD's warranty is second to none! However, if they are the only ones that will warranty the EFI then unless you plan on driving it back to them, warranty is useless. This is all if the warranty is in fact not honored by briggs. Which make since because its not thier parts or efi... IMO same as if you would have mods installed by hoyt or calen, you get warranty but you need to bring it in for that warranty. If you are close to PD, they i can see the warranty argument. If you are not, then its useless.. Just my opinion... |

Pd will give u a warranty with the efi that they install. Now I'm not sure if that covers only efi components or not. But IMO the gains are more beneficial if u spend the same money on a stg1 vs the efi. More power, more reliable motor |

Tchauvin I called Briggs to confirm and spoke to a guy named john and he informed me of the warranty issues. He said that no engine with an efi is covered by their warranty. |

Call pd about the warranty. Engine is covered for 3 years and efi is covered for one year. |

I got nothing against efi, esp when I'm starting this demon at 4am, but efi or not efi, efi isn't going to produce power and torque like a cam, decked heads. More responsive? Probably Easier to start probably Better idling probably But put 5 people in ur boat and five people in mine and see which does what Btw I love ur boat, as stated n my op, it's my opinion |
