So I was on here about this time last year about to drop some coin on a a gtr and boat. I realized 85% of my boat use would be best served with an outboard for the lagoon. I settled on a super 16 gheenoe with a 40 horse suzuki, which runs about 38 mph. Now with that being said I still need a duck boat to run through veggies and mud. The mud is not like what you guys are doing on the flats, but muddy enough my outboard is a no go. I want something small and light at the most 2 hunters with a dozen or two decoys. I was looking at the E.B.A.D.S four rivers sneak boat and I am waiting to hear shipping prices. I am almost set on the 12 horse copperhead motor unless you guys know of better or issues with this motor. Everything I have seen has been pretty impressive. If this four rivers boat is to much to ship, should I go with a riveted john boat like 12/36 or maybe another gheeno. I love this gheenoe I have now just not sure how they handle a surface drive. Running in FL, St. Johns, Lake Jessup, Monroe, Puzzle, and Harney. |

i use to live there. you can use a joh boat just fine. gheeno would work ok too. i would say you need a little bigger rig than you mention. two ppl and gear will put you ridden low in a 12/36. are you going to hunt from the boat? if so 14/48 would be a min. how far will you run? if more than 2 miles i would want more power. i run a 14/48 riveted boat with a 23. it will do 24-25 up stream in the small river i run on. fairly good current. you could do a 15/42 riveted or a 16/48 riveted and do ok also. i dont think i would want to be on the st. johns in the dark in that small a boat. |

Okay so I posted this in the LT forum because I was looking at a 23 or 35 go-devil lt. I would save a bunch of money not buying another boat, trailer, and registration and insurance. Not to mention that my wife has mentioned many times I am not getting another boat but can get a motor. So I will be buying a lift to remove the 40 off my gheenoe during hunting season and putting a MM on it and vice versa when hunting season is over, unless scouting for new spots. My 40 bolts on to the transom so its a little bit of work, but worth not destroying the motor when hunting. It has been mentioned the MM could possibly rip the transom off this boat, but with a casting deck running back all the way to the transom and floor one each side about a foot wide, I don't see how I could strengthen it any more http://gheenoe.net/sixteenft.html (picture to the right and one left bottom) Here is the stuff I am running, mud bottoms with water and on another lake lots of vegetation. This is with the outboard and there have been a few times already I almost roasted my motor. I don't know why but I really like the idea of a long tail I have my fast boat setup I want my boat to go back in nasty muddy creeks and big grass flats. I would be happy if a LT would get 18-20 loaded with two guys. Is that not reasonable? The link to gheenoe's website says the boat is 350lbs I would say mine is closer to 400 with batteries and gas tank. Your thoughts on the transom and what motor do you think my application would be best? The 12 copperhead looks good but thinking its under powered for this boat and a SD. Maybe I should find someone to test drive a LT? I just do not want to get stuck, I know no one around here that could help me get out if I do. |

Check out either the phowler line of sneak boats or cottonmouth custom boats... Both hulls have been fine tuned to run with the smaller surface drives |
