Inking about a PD boat and am looking at the 1848 as I want something that's stable but not too wide. Only concern is their site lists all 1848boats as having 18". The dealer tells me the transoms are at 20" which is good, but should I be concerned with the side height being 18", or do you guys think that's plenty?

Yes, I saw they make 21" but I didn't see it as an option on a 48" floor boat. Maybe I'll call and ask them.

Our lakes around here are like any other lakes that have open water, but I don't plan to run out there unless absolutely necessary. My plan would be to always hug the bank as much as possible and stay in the backwaters, as this is primarily going to be used for duck hunting. I assume 18" would be ok there with the 20" transom, but I certainly want your thoughts.

Thanks guys.

Nice rigs....thanks guys....and great pic with the little one. I have two of those myself :)

Are 18" sides still safe or should I avoid them?

I like the looks of the 18" but the 21" helps contain the kiddos!

If you have the money go with the 21". It will just give you a little more assurance.

Well I picked up this guy over the weekend....it was a dealers demo boat with 13 hours. Boat has EFI, pointed bow, upgraded spotlight bars, Hydroturf, and LEDs to name a few goodies. Hopefully my image loads correctly.

Do not get the 18" sides! There isn't much freeboard with them! Water is over half way up.

Unless you are always alone, get the high sides

Yep,,guess it all depends on what u carry....I hunt a lot out of a friends 17/54 low side and a 4 man load is not safe in it. It only has about 3" of freeboard in the back.

If u carefull I guess you are ok....they sink real fast though!!! Ha

I definitely don't plan to ever have 4 grown men in the boat plus gear. That's too much in my opinion even with 3 more inches on the sides. Max I'll have is three and we probably won't even hunt out of the boat....just taxi.

New to mud boats. Going test run a 17x54 prodrive sbx 36hp fpr with center console hydraulic steering. Only a few years old with very little use. What should I expect and look for in this test run. Thanks
