Ok I had a tracker 1448 with pods that had a Yamaha 60/40 2 stroke tiller jet that weight 225lbs. The boat ran 31-32 by myself and 27 with me and a friend. In shallow water it was about a mile faster than deep water.

It seems everywhere I read people are always saying a 1448 is to small for a gtr 35. The GTR 35 only weighs 35 more lbs than my jet and it handled it just fine!

I now have a 1656 g3 jet with a 60/40 center console it's a tank, not a day goes by that I don't miss my little 1448. My 1448 was stable handled like a sports car, could haul the mail, was so light if you hit a rock it just bounced off it.

SO WHAT WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 260lb mm and a 225lb jet?
COULD I NOT EXPECT THE SAME KIND OF PERFORMANCE???

Sorry guys a 60/40 Is a 60 hp out board motor with a jet foot instead of a regular lower unit. Jets aren't as efficient as regular outboard cutting it down to a 40 horse power jet. I would love to have that same setup again except with a mm so I could go in the vegetation and mud, where I couldn't with a jet because it would clog.

That's what confuses me why would it not work on a 1448,but it would work on say a 1748? I mean if you put a 60/40 jet on a 1448 boat it is going to go faster than a 1748 for the pure fact that it's lighter. What make a mudd motor different than a jet that weighs within 35lbs of each other? I'm not saying your wrong I think I am just missing something here.

Before I just make afool out of myself here you asking why ppl recomend you running a 1748 over a 1448 with a mm right?

Trying to compare a mm to a jet just isnt apples to apples. These motors need to be setup different from outboards to perform at there best.

mudmotors run like crap on a short boat. all the weight in the back doesnt really allow it to plane well and get the surface pierceing prop up like it is suppose to. an outboard doesnt care

I'm no expert but I think its because the 1748 has more boat in front of the motor which will help it plane off better, especially carrying a load.

It's in the mudmotor's union contract that you must put at least 16 feet of boat in front of them to help them plane. God damn unions are destroying this country!

a longer boat will run "flatter" than a shorter boat which will want to squat and ride nose up.....depending on the layout and weight distribution....i guess......

A mud motor needs more surface area to run rite, and a mm pushes the boat differently then an outboard. Bigger boat=more surface area. but it doesent mean that it will run better on a huge ass boat

Pearl river outlaw that is exactly what I am asking, but others have already stated why. With my 1448 it did want to make the front in stand up when I was running by myself so I put a 100lb tractor weight on the front deck. Rode like a dream after that. But now I see what I am missing!! "to get the surface pierceing prop up like it is suppose to". That makes since to me vs a jet doesn't need this thanks for helping me get that through my thick head lol!!

Wonder what kind of speed I could get out of a 16'x54" with a gtr 35?
