As much as you can afford is a good rule of thumb. That being said, I have a Diehard 700cca that I am going to run on my new rig. Will probably end up storing a motorcycle or lawnmower battery in the boat just in case since I will be running a single battery for starting and accessories.

I have a 27 series with 835cca I like the bigger battery so I can run the radio all day while we're fishing and not worry about if its gonna crank up at the end of the day

Optimas are horrible! When they started making them in Mexico a few years back, QC fell.

I had interstate in my dual rig. They lasted 2 years. I think that is pretty good considering all the shit I run off them. They are shot now but I'm putting same kind back in.
